Job Summary
This position could be filled at the next higher level. The hiring manager will determine the job level based on the skills, experience, and qualifications of the selected candidate.

The Health Physicist under general supervision of the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), will perform duties related to the recognition, evaluation and control of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation at the West Lafayette and regional campuses.

Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Physics or closely related field (i.e., Environmental Health, Chemistry, Biology or Physics, etc.)
  • Previous work experience in health physics, desired
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of health physics and the federal radiation regulations (Title 10)
  • Must be able to develop and present training programs
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships and build mutual trust and respect with others, and maintain them over time
  • Must have a high standard of integrity, performance, and professional behavior
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to achieve consensus and convince others to change their minds and/or actions
  • A strong commitment to customer service and the philosophy of the REM Mission Statement
  • Value diversity by working effectively with people from different viewpoints and backgrounds
  • May involve exposure to heights, extreme temperatures, hazardous chemicals, close spaces
  • Ability to lift and carry 10 to 25 lbs. frequently, and up to 50 lbs. occasionally
  • A valid US or Canadian driver's license

Preferred:
  • Two years previous experience in Health Physics
  • Working experience in an academic environment, hospital or research facility
