THIS POSITION HAS AN END DATE OF 02/28/2023
General Purpose:
Under the Principal Investigator's (PI) guidance, independently direct and execute research projects studying regeneration and repair of tissue damage that occurs as a result of radiation therapy. Radiation treatment of head and neck cancer patients results in irreversible loss of salivary gland secretory acinar cells, and permanent dry mouth. Our data have revealed previously unrecognized regenerative capacity in irradiated human and mouse salivary glands, which involves cellular plasticity. This NIH-funded position is available to investigate the role of cellular plasticity and senescence in the response to injury and in regeneration, using genetically engineered mouse models, and human tissue, in combination with RNA Seq, and 3D in vitro cultures.
Supervision and Direction Exercised:
Undergraduates & graduate students
Machines and Equipment Used:
Computer and/or peripheral equipment, microscopes with imaging software, confocal microscope, microtome, cryostat, tissue processor, plate reader, thermal cyclers, irradiator, SARRP, incubators, centrifuges, autoclave.
