Job Overview:
APTIM is seeking an Environmental Scientist (Geologist, Environmental Scientist, or Hydrogeologist) to join our team of Engineers, Scientists and Technicians who are passionately committed to safely solving our clients' environmental concerns. The qualified candidate will be a hands-on scientist who is dedicated to completing assigned tasks with precision and accuracy both in terms of physical duties, and in documentation. The Environmental Scientist is a professional position providing support for a range of environmental and infrastructure projects funded by private and government clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- The Scientist will perform a variety of field and office work that includes conducting Phase I site visits and report writing; collection of soil, water, and other environmental media samples for laboratory analysis; installation of soil borings and monitor wells; and completion of environmental compliance inspection and support activities.
- Work will include a combination of field tasks and office tasks necessary to complete environmental due diligence, assessment, remediation and infrastructure projects.
- Conduct and support environmental site assessments (Phase I and Phase II ESA's)
- Collection and interpretation/evaluation of soil/groundwater, and air samples.
- Execute various work scopes, and maintains project schedules and budgetary goals, and supervises contractors.
- Work independently or as part of a project team and be able to adjust to changing site conditions.
- Work closely with Project Managers in implementing project tasks to meet client objectives and priorities.
- Provide technical support to projects in all phases of work and a variety of scopes that include site characterization, procurement, and construction.
- Support environmental permitting, permit compliance, and environmental due diligence projects.
- Communication of technical concepts, evaluation results, plans, reports, etc., and ensures conformance to applicable technical standards as well as company policies and procedures.
- Manages own time to meet agreed targets; develops plans for short-term work activities in own area.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science or a related field is required.
- 2 - 5 years of work experience in the field, primarily related to environmental services including Phase I and Phase II ESA's, well/soil boring installations, environmental permit sampling, compliance inspections, and supervising contractors.
- 2 - 5 years of experience in the office preparing text, tables, figures, field documentation and design drawings and calculations for environmental reports. Strong written and oral communication skills are required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge and understanding of state and federal environmental regulations.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to manage multiple activities on an on-going basis by given deadline.
- Must be able to safely drive to job sites.
- Must have strong written and oral communication skills.
- Current 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification desired.
- Experience working in local geologic environments.
