Role Description

As a member of the initial scientific team at Provivi, the successful hire will work under the direction of a senior scientist on various aspects of Provivi's technology. The primary focus will be on bioinformatics and protein engineering.

Responsibilities May Include
  • Maintaining and updating the bioinformatics/data analysis pipeline
  • Recording and documenting all in silico experiments and data
  • Performing high-throughput sample processing and subsequent data analysis of R&D samples.
  • Assisting in developing and evaluating analytical methods for compounds of interest.
  • Developing microbial strains that produce biopesticides.
  • Performing biochemistry experiments, such as executing and optimizing enzyme assays, measuring and interpreting enzyme kinetics data, and analyzing enzymatic reactions using HPLC and GC analysis
  • Recording and documenting all experiments and resulting data;
  • Processing data for subsequent review and reporting;
  • Communicating results and lab issues in a timely manner with clarity and precision, both verbally and in writing;
  • Assisting with lab maintenance as necessary (preparing media, autoclaving supplies and waste).
  • Collaborating with chemists and chemical engineers on biocatalysis, fermentation, and product purification processes.
  • Writing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for internal use.
  • Reviewing the scientific literature (academic and patent literature)
  • Preparing internal research reports, invention disclosures, and technical presentations (internal and external).


Qualifications & Skills Include
  • Desired Education/Experience:
    • BS or MS in computer science, computational biology, chemical engineering, physics, chemistry or equivalent.
    • One (1) year of industrial experience in computational biology, data science (biology focused), or chemical engineering.
  • Required Skills:
    • Strong working knowledge of computer programming languages (e.g., Python, R, Bash)
    • Experience with in silico protein design, molecular dynamics simulations, structural bioinformatics (e.g, Pymol, Gromacs)
    • Advanced proficiency in bioinformatics (e.g., genome mining, high throughput data analysis, in silico characterization of developed strains)
    • Background in molecular biology is highly desired
    • Knowledge of intermediate and advanced Excel functions such as lookup tables and conditional statements.
    • Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Spotfire) is a plus.
    • A good understanding of metabolic engineering, biochemistry, microbiology and genetics principles.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills including managing projects simultaneously.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Excellent attention to detail and diligent adherence to deadlines and deliverables.
    • Ability to prioritize responsibilities and multi-task
    • Must be motivated, self-directed and work well with little oversight
    • Ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced startup environment.
