Molecular Biologist (III) - Strain Development

This is an exempt level position.
Position Summary:
The Cell Engineering group is recruiting a molecular biologist to join the design biology team. The successful candidate will be responsible for high-throughput yeast strain engineering and molecular evaluation using advanced DNA technologies. This scientist will be an important contributor within the Sustainable Materials research team and their work will support multiple strain engineering projects.
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform high-throughput, automated yeast and bacterial transformations
- Confirm the genotype and phenotype of engineered strains
- Conduct an array of molecular biology and microbiology methods (e.g. molecular cloning, PCR, reporter assays, cell culturing), without supervision
- Operate and maintain lab equipment, including state-of-the-art robotic platforms
- Use commercial software for DNA design and analysis (e.g. Geneious, Benchling, DNASTAR).
- Design and execute lab work via LIMS
- Maintain a detailed Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN), interpret experimental results and compose technical reports
- Contribute to a team-oriented, positive, safe and inclusive work environment
Job Requirements:
These skills and experiences will be required or useful for the candidate:
- Master's Degree in molecular biology (or related field) with industry experience
- A track record of success using multiple molecular cloning techniques
- Proficiency with DNA analysis methods and data interpretation
- Understanding of bio-based production and key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Demonstrated experience working within inter-disciplinary teams
- Ability to work with large sample sizes and datasets
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with both technical and non-technical personnel
