A DAY IN THE LIFE AS AN ACTOR EDUCATOR

As Actor Educators work in the Education Department of the San Antonio Zoo to facilitate immersive, engaging, and interactive presentations that inspire guests to love, engage, act, and protect animals and the places they live. Actor Educators are energetic and enthusiastic individuals that perform dynamic and improvised presentations, sometimes including singing. You will use exhibit graphics, role-playing, live animals, props, and physical theatre to encourage our guests to be advocates for wildlife.

You must be fully committed to San Antonio Zoo's mission to create awareness that inspires action to care for the wildlife we steward and the animals we protect. You take pride in knowing your hard work is making a difference in wildlife conservation.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR ACTOR EDUCATOR
  • Background in theatre, improv, and/or musical theatre. At least one year of experience in performing at a public venue preferred.
  • Facilitate innovative, immersive, and creative theatrical interactions by performing in character, using storytelling, improvisation, songs, puppets, props, and physical theatre/dance.
  • Excellent presentation and public engagement skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively via a microphone in English, presenting biological and conservation information in a fun, theatrical, engaging, and professional manner.
  • Coursework in drama/theatre, zoology, biology, education, environmental education, and/or public speaking/communications preferred.
  • Willingness to learn, take the initiative, work independently, and work comfortably with various people from various backgrounds and cultures.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently and proceed with objectives without supervision.
  • Successful candidates must complete a pre-employment National Sex Offender Search, Criminal Background Check, and Drug Screen.
  • Strong customer service background as indicated by educational knowledge and/or previous experience.

WORK SCHEDULE

We are a year-round operation; this position requires a flexible schedule to work weekends, holidays, and occasionally after hours for special assignments.
