Description
Burns & McDonnell's office in Vancouver, WA, is actively seeking a Senior Scientist/Project Manager to support, manage, and develop business for our environmental division. The technical areas encompassed by this position include environmental surveys, NEPA analysis, permitting, siting and routing, and other various permitting services. The candidate should have an established and successful history managing and leading tasks for both small and large-scale projects including but not limited to assisting with developing proposals and cost estimates, executing project tasks, managing project budgets and forecasts, delivering client satisfaction, and mentoring staff.
The Senior Scientist/Project Manager will work within our Environmental Services (ENS) Global Practice to perform the following duties:
- Project management, team leadership, management & mentoring of junior staff;
- Preparing studies, evaluations, NEPA and state documentation for all types and sizes of environmental projects;
- Leading habitat assessments, species-specific presence/absence surveys, avian and bat studies, other state and federal protected species-specific studies;
- Leading land use, DOT, and other entitlement permitting efforts ;
- Experience with WA SEPA, and OR EFSC is desired.
- Developing, cultivating, and strengthening relationships with clients.
- Assist with developing business for the Vancouver ENS Global Practice; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualified candidates will have experience in the following areas and with the following agencies:
- National Environmental Policy Act
- State and Local Environmental Permitting
- State and Local Land Use Permitting
- U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
- U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service
- National Marine Fisheries Service
- United States Forest Service
- State Wildlife Agencies Us Forest Service
- BLM
- Specific experience in electricity transmission, oil & gas, transportation, renewables, and other similar markets is preferred. Experience with the resources and regulatory agencies in the western U.S. is a requirement. Local and regional knowledge and relationships with existing clients is preferred.
Qualifications
- B.S. or M.S. in Environmental Science, Ecology or Wildlife Biology preferred or related degree from accredited program. Applicable years of experience may be substituted for degree requirement.
- Minimum 7 years related consulting experience in a wide variety of areas ranging from leading and managing technical teams, project management and business development, and must also be able to effectively balance their direct and indirect utilization rates.
- 10 years related consulting experience preferred.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills are required to develop and maintain relationships.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Working understanding of GIS
- Excellent writing skills.
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office suite.
- Strong experience working with both private and public-sector clients.
- Business development in both sectors is preferred.
