JOB SUMMARY:

The Environmental Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the management of all regulated environmental functions within the facility and will provide environmental reporting and ensure regulatory compliance at the HAECO Lake City Facility. This position will support programs for the disposal of hazardous and universal waste, manage the operation of the wastewater pretreatment system, and perform duties at the direction of the Environmental Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
  • Assist with environmental incident investigations to determine root cause and work with facility management to implement corrective action to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Comply with and ensure compliance of company policies and programs.
  • Implement environmental programs as needed in accordance with HAECO, FDEP and EPA requirements.
  • In the absence of the Environmental Manager act as principal point of contact for any environmental issue.
  • Conduct periodic and scheduled facility environmental inspections as necessary.
  • Draft environmental related correspondence policy and procedures.
  • Write and distribute environmental related topics to be reviewed at crew meetings.
  • Maintain all record keeping procedures for all environmental program required documentation.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the environmental training programs and adjust the programs to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Serve on the Emergency Response Team and serve as the Alternate Emergency Coordinator.
  • Be the Wastewater Pretreatment Operator. Process wastewater and monitor functions.
  • Supervise the collection and disposal of Hazardous and Universal Wastes.
  • Assist with all required environmental permits and reports including but not limited to:
    • Air Emissions Permit
    • Industrial wastewater pretreatment permit
    • Industrial Wastewater Discharge
    • Hazardous waste permit
    • Toxic and hazardous emissions inventory report
    • Tier II community right to know report
    • Groundwater remediation post closure permit
    • Above Ground Storage Tanks
    In conjunction with the Air Emissions Permit, screen all chemicals added to the HAECO Lake City inventory and establish hazardous materials codes; determine which chemicals contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and calculate VOC factors for each unit. Maintain a database of all chemical products in the HAECO Lake City inventory that requires SDS. Maintain and updated file of Safety Data Sheets for all chemical products in the HAECO Lake City inventory.In conjunction with the Environmental Manager, approve the purchase of all new chemicals; approve all proposed chemical purchases for need, disposal requirements, and compliance with Clean Air Act Standards. Maintain copies of Air Emissions Standards, Environmental Compliance Reference, and Regulated chemicals list. Maintain the HAECO Contingency Plans; implement, and review proactive programs designed to foresee and respond to environmental accidents. Develop and accomplish routine audits to identify and correct non-compliance conditions. Support training programs to raise environmental awareness to employees. Respond to emergencies during regular work schedule and on/off-shift times by cell phone.Interact with persons at all levels within the company and outside the company on matters requiring explanation, discussion, persuasion, and obtaining approvals. Plan own work and use professional knowledge to evaluate and interpret job requirements, guided by standard or accepted practice. Perform other duties assigned.

    MINIMUM:
  • Duties require the equivalent of a four-year (4) college degree in Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related area and one (1) to five (5) years progressively responsible experience OR the equivalent combination of education and expertise.
  • Must possess knowledge of Federal, State, and Local regulations and their impact/application pertaining to the responsibilities of this position and a thorough working knowledge of EPA regulations.
  • Computer skills including typical office software.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to read, write, and understand the English language.
  • Visual Acuity must be a minimum of 20/40 corrected.
  • Within 12 months have or obtain RCRA 40-hour State specific Hazardous Waste Management Training in accordance with 40 CFR265.16 and maintain annual recertification.
