ORAU has a contingent job opportunity for a Biologist in support of the overall functions of the Vaccine Production Program, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), located in Gaithersburg, MD. The positions are contingent on award of an upcoming contract with NIAID Professional, Scientific and Technical Support Services. Salary for positions will be determined based on education and experience. Relocation support is not available for this position.

  • Perform culture mammalian cells in plates, shake flasks, and small-scale bioreactors with aseptic technique.
  • Perfom transfection, selection, and single-cell cloning of mammalian cells.
  • Perform plasmid cloning by PCR, restriction digest and bacterial culture.
  • Prepare Medium/reagents, equipment maintenance, and order supplies.
  • Write and review standard operating procedures and technical reports.
  • Maintain complete documentation records to support regulatory filings.



  • B.S. in Biological Sciences with a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience or M.S. in Biological Sciences with independent research experience in an academic or industrial setting. Advanced degree holders will not be considered.
  • Hands-on experience with aseptic technique and mammalian cell culture along with supporting technologies for cell line engineering including cell counting, high-throughput transfection, single-cell cloning, and flow cytometry.
  • Familiarity with molecular cloning methods, PCR, and agarose gel electrophoresis.
  • Experience in preparing technical reports, standard operating procedures, and data presentations.
  • Ability to work independently to execute defined experiments and troubleshoot issues as needed to meet project timelines.
  • Ability to effectively communicate plans, results, challenges, and ideas to other team members in oral and written forms.
  • Experience in monoclonal antibody and/or vaccine production preferred
