RES is the nation's largest and most experienced provider of ecological restoration and water resource solutions. To date, we have restored over 328 stream miles, 58,024 wetland acres, and rehabilitated, preserved, and/or managed over 15,000 acres of special-status species habitats. RES operations include planting over 17,400,000 restorative trees and reducing over 267 tons of polluting nutrients. RES navigates and streamlines the environmental permitting process with solutions that balance economic development and ecological sustainability through the establishment of mitigation/conservation banks, permittee responsible turnkey mitigation, and corporate social responsibility projects.

RES is accepting applications for an ecologist to provide broad environmental support to a team of environmental land operators, restoration, and mitigation professionals in our Sacramento, CA office. Successful candidates must be flexible and responsive to a challenging work environment where schedules, site locations, and tasks fluctuate according to the needs of the project. The role of the ecologist requires technical skills, as well as, strong organizational and communication skills.

The desired candidate's responsibilities would include performing all aspects of field work, collecting and organizing data, writing technical reports, preparing permit applications, and assisting in the stewardship of all RES's portfolio within the Western Region.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. in ecology, environmental science, or related field (such as but not limited to botany, biology, forestry, etc.).
  • 2+ years of experience in the field of ecology or related field.
  • Previous field experience including ecology surveys, species-specific wildlife field surveys, botanical, or biological resources assessments.
  • Experience and familiarity with native and non-native flora and fauna in California, Oregon, and/or Washington.
  • Must be physically fit and able to navigate rugged conditions on foot (day and night surveys may be required) and ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds is required.
  • Ability to work safely outdoors in variable weather conditions and on challenging terrain.
  • Desire to work in the field for extended time periods while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Flexible and willingness to travel with overnight stays.
  • Solid time management and follow-through skills, with the ability to simultaneously work on and manage multiple tasks.
  • Excellent oral and written communication.
  • Working knowledge of GPS technologies for navigation, data collection, and map interpretation.
  • Able to be flexible to unexpected changes in work schedule.
  • Able to work independently while collaborating with other team members during problem solving and decision-making.
  • Self-motivated and strong initiative.
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, Clean DMV record, and compliance with company safety policies are required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of relevant environmental statutes, regulations (e.g., CEQA, NEPA, Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, Fish and Game Code), and associated permits.
  • Working knowledge of commonly employed survey methods for California wildlife, vegetation, and/or rare plants.
  • Experience with vernal pool ecology and survey protocols.
  • Experience with plant keys such as, but not limited to, the Jepson Manual.
  • Knowledge of regional state and federal endangered species programs.
  • Basic understanding of operation and maintenance of biological and land management equipment.
