We are currently seeking a Biologist to work onsite with the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.

Job Description:

• Manage and perform procurement of surgical specimens/patient samples for Surgical Neurology Branch (SNB)
• Manage the database that tracks these samples
• Monitor storage and distribution of patient samples
• Communicate with SNB clinicians regarding surgical specimens
• Perform and teach basic histology procedures (tissue cutting and staining)
• Collaborate with other units and labs requiring research immunohistochemistry assistance
• Monitor the equipment (freezers, microscopes, scanners) and histology supplies required for these tasks

Required Skills:

• Master's degree in biology, Life Sciences or related discipline. Three (3)years of specialized experience plus a Bachelor's degree is equivalent to a Master's degree.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience with basic wet lab/biology work
• Proficiency in computer skills including working with spread sheets/databases
• Record keeping and organizational skills
• Basic biology wet lab skills (knowledge of histology, neuroanatomy preferred)
• Ability to work independently, troubleshoot and adjust to unexpected complications
