Job Purpose:

Manager, Environmental Health & Safety will educate, train, and provide support to operations in the development and execution of consistent safety and environmental management programs. Direct accident investigation programs, develop accident trends, and develop programs for improving performance. Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental programs. Direct a proactive safety and environmental program. Improve the quality of safety and environmental management processes following established regulations, policies, standards, and practices. In our fast-paced and dynamic manufacturing environment, you will take on and execute projects and studies of significant importance, scope, and complexity.

Essential Duties
  • Plans and coordinates the implementation of company-wide safety and health programs in support ofcorporate-wide safety and health guidelines and standards to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses.
  • Inspects each facility to identify safety, health, and environmental risks.
  • Develops and implements inspection policies and procedures, and a schedule of routine inspections.
  • Develops health and safety procedures (SOPs) for all areas of the company.
  • Prepares and schedules training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other relevant topics.
  • Monitors compliance with safety procedures.
  • Ensures that material safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.
  • Ensure each facility complies with all applicable EHS laws and regulations and corporate policies.
  • Manage all regulatory reporting requirements, permitting processes, and response to regulatory activities, inspections, and citations.
  • Inspects machinery, equipment, and working conditions to ensure compliance with occupational safety and health regulations
  • Ensure all required environmental air, water, waste, stormwater activities are scheduled, completed and properly documented and reported.
  • Support incident investigation processes, including support for the injured employee during medical evaluations and treatment, follow up visits, reviewing investigations, and tracking corrective action implementation

  • Work each facility and local care facilities to manage health care examinations, assessments, incident follow up and treatment activities.
  • Actively manage all facility workers compensation claims, initiate meetings with and perform semi-annual claim reviews.
  • Develop, implement and maintain effective systems and procedures to achieve an accident and environmental incident free facility.
  • Directs, monitors, and performs accident investigations, safety inspections and audits. Drafts inspection reports to document inspection findings.
  • Drive strategic planning and tactical initiatives to identify and develop processes for continuous improvement.
  • Provide visible and active leadership in delivering excellent safety results.
  • Coach company and facility leadership to ensure HSE alignment and performance goals are met.
  • Provide support for capital project development and implementation.
  • Implement systems to improve/sustain results in environmental and safety systems.
  • Develops, updates and implements safety policies as they relate to employee, visitor, trucker and contractors' activities while on company property
  • Analyze, prepare and maintain mandatory/regulatory related safety and environmental reports and records
  • Directs, submits and monitors records, summaries and reporting as required by OSHA and Corporate
  • Tracks company's environmental and carbon footprint and leads initiatives to reduce that footprint.
  • Provides oversight of EH&S requirements for vendors as well as auditing and monitoring compliance with those requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities
  • Have experience in setting up and running at least a plant or divisional health, safety and environmental program
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a health, safety and environmental program.
  • Excellent knowledge of health, safety and environmental laws, regulations and best practices.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Demonstrated skills in strategic planning and project management
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver on commitments regularly
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex topics with clarity and to achieve buy in with peers and senior leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, competing priorities with wisdom and humor
  • Proficient knowledge of MS Office programs, particularly Excel


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certifications: ASP or similar certification related to Environmental, Health and/or Safety
  • Minimum 5+ years of EH&S practice
  • Experience in accident investigations and OSHA reporting
  • Experience in managing workers' compensation claims
  • Experience in project leadership and project management

Preferred Qualifications
  • Certifications: CSP or similar certification related to Environmental, Health and/or Safety
  • Experience with OSHA or EPA or state equivalents
  • Master's or Graduate degree preferred, but not required (bonus, but not required) Background in some form of communicative arts, such as theater, Toastmasters, improv, standup, story or poetry jams, solo singing, etc. (may include educational or hobby experiences)

Physical Requirements
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and a variety of office equipment.
  • Occasionally may need to reach, stoop, or kneel.
  • As much as 50% travel.
