Careers: Director, China Projects Team

Rhodium Group is recruiting a Director to lead the firm's China Projects team, preferably from its offices in New York or in the District of Columbia. This Rhodium team has a two-decade track record of designing, researching, and publishing best-in-class analyses of China's economy and its global interaction.

Position Description

Rhodium Group is looking for an experienced professional to lead the firm's China Projects team. The China Projects team manages research on economic and policy development in China and its interaction with the global economy. It conducts bespoke projects and other engagements with public interest-oriented clients including think tanks, governments, and foundations, and supports other parts of Rhodium with foundational analysis. For the ideal individual this is a unique opportunity to combine market relevance with think-tank methods and work quality; policy sophistication with a passion for accessible writing that non-specialists can understand; and quantitative rigor with a rich mix of qualitative aspects of research. This is not an easy job, but it is an extraordinarily fulfilling one for people who share our passion.

Position Responsibilities

The Director is responsible for all aspects of teamwork including research agenda-setting, recruiting and team management, financial planning and business development, project execution, and client engagement. This person will have an entrepreneurial mindset and will work with the firm's partners on thought leadership, business strategy, and public outreach.

Qualifications

Attractive candidates will have the following qualifications:
  • Graduate degree or higher in international economics, international affairs, China/Asia studies, political science, or related fields, and 10 or more years of professional experience, or the equivalent.
  • Mastery of international economics and quantitative as well as qualitative research methods; excellence in research design and execution of complex research; familiarity with relevant software packages.
  • Deep familiarity with China-related economic policy and geoeconomic dynamics, passion for bringing objective analysis to public policy debate, deep professional network, and a reputation for intellectual leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience working with partners and funders in a fast-moving environment; ability to supervise multiple projects and take ownership; mentor, grow and lead a team; prioritize and troubleshoot independently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; experience presenting to different audiences.
  • Chinese language proficiency.

Location and Travel Requirements

  • Rhodium's preference is for the Director to operate from Rhodium's New York headquarters or in Washington, DC. Remote work is expected until in-office work resumes.
  • Some domestic and international travel (~20%).

Compensation, Benefits, and Recruiting Process

Rhodium Group is an equal opportunity employer with a strong commitment to fostering an environment that promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The Director position will offer competitive base salary compensation, a progressive benefits package, and opportunities for intellectual and professional advancement while working with a talented and entrepreneurial group of colleagues.
