Bristol-Myers Squibb is a global Biopharma company committed to a single mission: to discover, develop, and deliver innovative medicines focused on helping millions of patients around the world in disease areas such as oncology, cardiovascular, immunoscience and fibrosis.

Join us and make a difference. We hire the best people and provide them with a work environment that places a premium on diversity, integrity, collaboration and personal development. Through a culture of inclusion, we create a better, more productive work environment. We believe that the diverse experiences and perspectives of all our employees help to drive innovation and transformative business results.

The BMS Immuno-Oncology and Cell Therapy Thematic Research Center is dedicated to research supporting development of novel cellular therapies based on two distinct and complementary platforms - Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) and Engineered T Cell Receptor (eTCR) technologies. Our goal is to revolutionize medicine by re-engaging the body's immune system to treat cancer.

The Engineered T Cell Biology Team is seeking an experienced and driven immunologist or cellular biologist to help build and advance our cell therapy and immune-oncology portfolio. This position will be responsible for the evaluation of various modalities (eg; small molecule, genetic, epigenetic) that permit tuning of T cell functional responses and/or differentiation and will focus on the development of strategies, preclinical assays and screens that provide framework for the evaluation of various dysfunctional states. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of T cell biology including activation, signaling, differentiation and immune-regulation pathways and a track record of success in cell therapy or immuno-oncology drug discovery. This position is in a highly collaborative, innovate and rapidly evolving environment and interfaces with multiple teams and functions across the company. Our team's overall goal is to modulate T cell health, function and potency to iterate on improving the overall therapeutic potential of cellular therapies for BMS' Research and Early Development Pipeline.

Responsibilities for this role will include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Application of T cell biology, differentiation and immune regulation expertise to develop strategies to build and/or extend assays that permit interrogation of T cells, CAR T or eTCR T cells in dysfunctional states
  • Produce gene- or small molecule/LMW-modified CAR T or eTCR T cells in scale-down settings and evaluate functionality utilizing in vitro screens
  • Devise gain and loss of function screens to complement hypothesis-driven gene evaluations
  • Provide T cell biology subject matter expertise and immunology guidance to cross-functional teams evaluating a diverse array of cell therapy engineering challenges
  • Leverage existing internal capabilities as well as be willing and eager to apply novel ideas from the literature and other disciplines to innovate in a rapidly evolving field
  • Help develop and mentor junior scientists on our team
  • Build constructive relationships across the organization and with our key business partners to achieve common goals

Qualifications:
  • PhD with at least 3 years of successful postdoctoral experience plus 5+ years of experience in an industry setting, or a BS/MS with 16+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Broad working knowledge of platforms and technologies to evaluate T cell function and/or heterogeneity including but not limited to in vitro stimulation assays, high-dimensional FACS or spectral cytometry for phenotypic or functional analysis, transcriptional or epigenetic assessment, population labeling/tracking or fate-mapping, and/or other single-cell analytics
  • Self-motivated and functional as an individual contributor as well as in a highly collaborative team-based environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, and strong organizational skills to facilitate managing multiple projects at once in a matrix environment
  • Prior supervisor experience a plus
  • Multivariate or machine learning data analytics experience a plus (eg; JMP, python, R)
