The BMS Immuno-Oncology and Cell Therapy Thematic Research Center is dedicated to research supporting development of novel cellular therapies. Our goal is to revolutionize medicine by re-engaging the body's immune system to treat cancer.
The CAR T and TCR Biology team is seeking a passionate scientist to help us deliver on this critical goal. The ideal candidate is an experienced and highly motivated immunologist with a strong background in T cell immunology who will lead optimization and engineering of next generation T cell therapeutic candidates. The successful candidate will have in depth conceptual understanding of tumor-associated T cell biology, including T cell activation, signaling, differentiation, and immune-regulation pathways. Must be able to identify relevant assays, as well as recognize the need for novel technologies, for assessing and optimizing functionality of engineered T cells. This position is ideal for the innovative scientist who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Candidates with demonstrated experience advancing immunotherapy or cell therapy candidates through both matrixed and direct line leadership are preferred.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Identification and conception of novel mechanisms for improving T cell function and leading design and characterization activities to enable science-driven decision making
- Designing, implementing and overseeing critical studies required to drive hypothesis-driven research through interpretation of complex experiments and development of novel assays and research tools.
- Application of extensive knowledge of T cell biology including activation pathways, signaling pathways and antigen-specific differentiation
- Provide scientific leadership on cross-functional assignments
- Direct line management and matrixed project leadership to optimize and advance therapeutic T cell candidates
- Will provide recommendations on department-level strategic decisions
- Represent the company in external settings and work with internal and external collaborators
- Mentoring direct reports to provide guidance for outlining studies required for project advancement
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in immunology, immune-oncology or tumor immunology with at least 3 years of successful postdoctoral experience as demonstrated by strong publication record plus at least 3 years of experience in an industry setting or a M.S. with a minimum of 12 years of relevant work experience or B.S. with minimum of 14 years of relevant work experience in T cell immunology
- Experience with in vitro technologies typically employed to assess T cell functionality including but not limited to MSD, IncuCyte-based assays, multi-parameter flow cytometry for phenotypic characterization of T cells, T cell activation assays, T cell proliferation analysis, imaging
- T cell biology expert able to apply skills, theoretical knowledge and experience to provide scientific direction and approach to projects and challenges
- Able to recognize problems and recommend/develop appropriate solutions
- Self-motivated and focused with project management-oriented thinking; able to work on multiple projects in a matrix environment
- Ability to work productively as both team member and as individual contributor
- Strong communication skills for working with cross-functional teams as well for cross-departmental colleagues
- Requires strong organizational skills to ensure thorough and timely documentation of experiments, including those of their direct reports, and preparation of data for compiling reports
- Able to conceptualize broad impact of research programs and personal activities
- Supervisory experience is a plus
