Job Summary
AECOM is actively recruiting for a Planner III position for immediate employment at our office in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The Planner III provides technical support for a broad range of multidisciplinary projects, which may include state and Federal environmental compliance processes (NEPA, HEPA), resource impact assessments, permitting, military installation plans (ADP, IDP), special planning studies, and facility and community plans. The Planner works closely with senior staff and Project Managers to produce, refine, and at times, present reports and products in accordance with the project scope. The Planner must be flexible and able to work independently and within the team, usually within tight time frames within the parameters of each project.
The candidate must have a strong interest in developing and delivering high quality and innovative planning documents; excellent verbal and written communication skills; and a strong interest in working in a fast-paced and collaborative multidisciplinary team environment. Experience working in Hawaii preferred.
Job duties and responsibilities include but aren't limited to:
- Provide support in terms of technical expertise and administration for a range of projects, including environmental planning, land use planning, and master planning.
- Work within multi-disciplinary teams of planners, natural and cultural resource specialists, landscape architects, architects, engineers, scientists, and others to complete environmental planning and other projects.
- Serve as a section author or topic specialist for NEPA, HEPA and other types of environmental assessments, plans, and reports, working independently to complete assigned tasks to a high level of quality.
- Prepare presentations for delivery to clients, stakeholders and government (approving agencies) to advance understanding of projects and work towards approvals.
- Liaise with teaming partners, clients, government agencies, and other authorities as may be required regarding project objectives, policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with the company's Quality Assurance policies and procedures.
- Provide such assistance to senior management and technical practice leaders as may be required from time to time.
- Provide effective representation for the company, developing and managing relationships with the client and other outside partners and stakeholders.
- Manages complex planning studies, development applications and reviews.
- Reviews and processes complex comprehensive plan amendments, rezoning, annexations, site plans and plats.
- Conducts research and prepares statistical reports on land use, physical, social and economic issues.
- Provides professional planning assistance to member communities on varied land use and transportation projects.
- Develops plans, studies and analyses on regional basis.
- Works in regional program areas relating to natural/water resources planning, community development, hazard mitigation, coastal zone management, and others.
- Performs field inspections to gather data relevant to the development review process and/or to verify that development projects comply with approved plans.
- Conducts meetings and presents reports and other findings to staff with advisory boards and elected officials.

Minimum Requirements
- BA/BS in Urban and Regional Planning or a related discipline (for example: natural resource management, environmental studies, geography, landscape architecture) + 4 years of relevant experience in Environmental, Urban and/or Spatial Planning or demonstrated equivalency of experience and or education.
Preferred Qualifications
- The ideal candidate should have 4-6 years' work experience in Environmental, Urban, and/or Spatial Planning
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office suite of software applicationsUnderstanding of ArcGIS, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign software
- Masters Degree in Urban and Regional Planning or a related discipline (for example: natural resource management, environmental studies, geography, landscape architecture)Experience with Hawaii planning projectsProficiency using ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign software
