As a Director, Environmental Health and Safety for Staples, you will be responsible for leading the strategic development and implementation of policies, procedures, rules, and standards designed to positively influence associate and customer safety, as well as minimize regulatory risks & exposures. You will lead Staples Retail's efforts of hazard identification & mitigation, enhancing operating efficiencies, improving associate safety and eliminating unnecessary WC expense.

Subject Matter Expertise:
Serve as the subject matter expert to standardize and support the execution of Staples Retail safety and regulatory compliance programs including:
- Workplace Safety, Covid-19 safety standards, Workplace Violence
- Hazardous Substances management (Storage, Transportation & Disposal), Hazardous Chemical - Right to Know, Food Safety & Defense and applicable laws and regulations.
- Emergency Planning,
Regulatory Compliance, Execution and Response:
- Serve as primary liaison with regulatory agencies relating to safety, health, and environmental matters.
- Collaborate with Legal, Loss Prevention, Field Leadership, and other stakeholders to implement standards, conduct incident investigations, and coordinate responses to regulatory inquiries.
- Collaborate with Risk Management to analyze incident data, develop corrective action strategies, and implement hazard mitigation programs.
- Implement compliance solutions including SOP, data analysis, audits, and associate education & training programs.
- Remain current with emerging EHS trends, laws and regulations to achieve consistent regulatory practices and controls.
- Submit required regulatory reports to local, state, and federal bodies
Program Development and Execution:
- Develop, direct, implement, and manage all Safety Programs in all Staples Retail Locations including corporate facilities, retail stores, distribution centers and production facilities.
- Ensure compliance with safety training as required by OSHA, DOT, FDA and other regulatory agencies.
- Supervises Hazmat, Food Safety and Workplace Violence Programs.
- Manage the WC claims process in the field, and ensures compliance to the Return-to-Work efforts.

Essential skills and experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in occupational safety and health or similar discipline, or 7 years of equivalent training and experience in occupational safety and health principles and practices.
- 10 or more years of experience working in EHS, specifically with 5 or more years in a supervisory position and responsibility for multi-site organization.
- Proven success implementing and managing a comprehensive, multi-site EHS program (with a focus on Injury Prevention, Regulatory Compliance, After-Injury Management, Associate Training and Auditing/Action Planning).
