Chemours is seeking an Environmental Compliance Manager to join our team! This position will report directly to the Plant Manager.
As an Environmental Compliance Manager, you are responsible for overseeing the environmental performance of the plant site and ensuring that compliance to environmental legislation is met. The heart of the role is assessing current business practices and developing strategies to improve and meet environmental targets.

Chemours is seeking an Environmental Compliance Manager to join our team! This position will report directly to the Plant Manager.
As an Environmental Compliance Manager, you are responsible for overseeing the environmental performance of the plant site and ensuring that compliance to environmental legislation is met. The heart of the role is assessing current business practices and developing strategies to improve and meet environmental targets.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide strategic technical guidance, expertise, and leadership across the plant site
- Ensure transparent communication of environmental performance, programs, and initiatives within the site and with external stakeholders.
- Develop programs to enhance and continually improve our environmental performance
- Supplement and improve environmental compliance policies and procedures, including policies that may go beyond specific regulatory requirements.
- Execute assurance programs for Environmental compliance and Chemours' CRC commitments
- Ensure that systems and processes provide robust support for Clean Water Act NPDES Wastewater Discharge Permit, Clean Air Act Title V Permit, the RCRA Hazardous Waste Management Permit, the Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plan, and other Chemours environmental policies. Obtain input and review from corporate and third-party experts in environmental management systems and related systems and processes
- Lead and/or participate in investigation of environmental incidents, implement system improvements to reduce potential for future events
- Lead and participate in 1st party environmental audits, ISO 14001 EMS audits and site(s) 2nd party environmental audits.
- Lead and support our Chemours's corporate responsibility commitments. Develop strategy, roadmaps, and tactics for compliance.
- Responsible to lead execution of the CRC (relative to environmental related goals).
- Be the face for improving public/regulators/stakeholder's perception of Washington Works relative to environmental compliance, issues, actions, and performance.
- Be the resident expert for all PFAS programs.
- Ensure compliance with the corporation's mass balance model and report out results.
- Lead development and execution of strategy and initiatives to advance being a responsible, trusted, and admired manufacturer and neighbor.
In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:
- A Bachelor of Science Degree
- 7+ experience in an environmental capacity within the manufacturing industry
- Demonstrated functional/technical expertise and experience in other environmental competencies such as air and water regulatory compliance, waste management, including associated permitting
- Superior written and oral communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to foresee and anticipate problems and make appropriate adjustments
- Ability to read and interpret complex regulations and to work with the site to ensure compliance. Environmental regulatory knowledge in air, water & solid/hazardous waste
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, achieving results on time and ability to influence/negotiate with others at various levels of the organization and with regulatory agencies
- Ability to work effectively with operations, technical and maintenance personnel and to positively interact with other environmental professionals and the business to maximize results
- Ability to take initiative, self-manage, identify what is needed and take effective action to bring about change and lead/implement change while maintaining Chemours' core values
The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:
- Membership of an appropriate association is desirable including the worldwide alliance of environment and sustainability professionals (IEMA)
- Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) Program management, federal and state required
- Six Sigma or Lean Continuous Improvement Certification
- Knowledge of RCMS and ISO 14001 requirements
- Experience in various Environmental related reporting (SARA 312, 313, Air Emission Inventory, CERCLA, NPDES DMR, MACT compliance submissions)
- Experience in preparation of Waste Characteristic evaluations for off-site waste disposal
- Experience in the development/preparation of air permits (Minor NSR and Title V)
