Summary:
With only general guidance from mentor, performs testing of raw materials, finished products, and stability samples in support of pharmaceutical production. Testing may include, but is not limited to: Preparing slants, Roux bottles, Harvesting, Suspension Preparation, Dilutions, Media Preparation with pH Adjustment and beginning training on more advanced tests including Nystatin Bioassay Testing and Antimicrobial Effectiveness Testing. More difficult plate readings requiring more judgment are learned at this level. This includes environmental monitoring plates and bioassay plates.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
• Conducts testing assignments directed by Laboratory Management in a compliant, efficient and timely manner.
• Documents accurately all activities, rigorously adhering to cGMP/GLP and all company standards.
• Strictly adhere to all approved methodologies and SOPs without deviation.
• Conducts all activities while adhering to company and departmental safety program.
• Maintains the personal work area appearance and any other areas as defined by Laboratory Management.
• Is learning to review and verify data generated by other Microbiologists (review for accuracy and adherence to approved procedures). Once training is complete, may be responsible for review of data, notebooks, etc. generated by peers.
• Performs cleaning of laboratories, incubators/refrigerators, and equipment as required.
• May begin to assist in training of entry level Microbiologists.
• May be responsible for some secondary or housekeeping tasks.
• Understands the principles of 3 main tests (Micro Limits, AET, Bioassay) and what is required for each.
• Assists Laboratory Management with troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance instrumentation.
• Is learning the process of developing, writing, and revising applicable controlled documents under supervision.

Qualifications:
• Meets Microbiologist I requirements plus at least 1 year hands-on lab experience. Combinations of college (BS, MS, PhD) plus relevant lab experience may be considered.
• Good computer and software skills.
• Good problem solving aptitude, communication and multi-tasking skills.
• Has intermediate level of knowledge of general analytical concepts, practices, and procedures.
• Understands regulatory standards.
• At least 7 Microbiology Proficiency Test have been completed successfully.
