Summary
Dr. Jason Lee of Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) is seeking a postdoctoral associate to work on assisting him for new laboratory set- up at Baylor College of Medicine, Department of Molecular and Cellular biology. Dr. Lee's scientific research focus is based on post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. Dr. Lee is seeking a trainee who will work on independent project that will contribute to a vibrant and productive laboratory environment.
The J. Lee lab studies the mechanisms of cytoplasmic compartmentalization in mammalian cells with a focus on our recent discovery that the endoplasmic reticulum regulates mRNA compartmentalization through the formation of contact sites with mRNA-protein condensates. Our long-term goals are to elucidate the significance and mechanisms ER-condensate interactions in primary cells, such as neurons, during RNA viral infection, and in diseases, such as cancer.
The highly interdisciplinary and collaborative environment of our group provides unique career development opportunities for postdoctoral trainees. Please refer to our recent publication for details: [Science 2020(PMID: 32001628).
Job Purpose
Postdoctoral Associates are trainees working in an apprenticeship mode in preparation for a career as a scientific professional.
Job Duties
The postdoctoral associate will assist Dr. Lee and will be responsible for setting lab standards by selecting, evaluating and applying techniques used in research; such as cell culture, microscopy, molecular biology, RNA seq library preparation, etc. They will be expected to design, develop, execute, and publish research projects. They will also be expected to communicate well with other scientists in the lab.
Skills used: Immunofluorescence Cell fractionation Programming skills RNA seq Immunoprecipitation, Immunoblots Cloning, CRISPR Cell culture, pipetting Scientific writing and communication.
Minimum Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
• A Ph.D. (or equivalent) in biomedical sciences, highly motivated and career-oriented.
• Strong background and working knowledge in cell biology, RNA biology, neurobiology, and/or virology.
• Expertise in molecular biology, RNA-seq, neuronal cell culture models, and/or RNA viruses are strongly preferred.
Baylor College of Medicine is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action/Equal Access Employer.
