About the Chromatin Regulatory System

The chromatin regulatory system regulates gene expression by directing the movement of molecules that turn genes on and off. Disease dependencies associated with the chromatin regulatory system are estimated to impact over 2.5 million cancer patients across the United States, Europe and Japan. This system is further implicated in neurological, autoimmune, and other serious diseases.


Foghorn is seeking a highly motivated, creative, and collaborative researcher to perform primary and secondary screening assays to identify and characterize novel small molecule drug candidates.

The right candidate will demonstrate critical thinking, ability to perform under minimal supervision and learn new skills quickly. As a member of our Drug Discovery team, s/he will have an opportunity to employ various cellular and biochemical assay technologies in screening and hit validation. The candidate must enjoy a fun, fast-paced and hands-on research environment.

  • Performs primary assays for screening including both cellular and biochemical techniques
  • Performs assay development and optimization activities
  • Supports small-scale internal screening
  • Perform compound profiling in support of HTS hit triage and Hit-2-Lead efforts
  • Coordinate assay transfer and weekly activity with CROs
  • Evaluate and implement emerging technologies and instrumentation enabling drug discovery
  • Works collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team, analyzes data and presents results to project teams

  • BA/BS or MS in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in performing plate-based assays and compound testing in industry or academia
  • Cell culture skills and experience with cell-based assays are required
  • Proven ability to work under limited supervision to assess assay performance and optimize assay protocol are required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
  • Experience with automated liquid handling instrumentation is a plus
  • Familiarity with high-throughput assay optimization and screening is preferred
  • Hands-on experience with fluorescence-based assay techniques (e.g. HTRF, FP, AlphaLISA/AlphaScreen) and label-free technologies (e.g. ITC, DSF, SPR, MST) is preferred
  • Critical independent thinking, strong problem-solving, excellent communication, and presentation skills
  • Timely delivery of results, multitasking and ability to collaborate across teams and disciplines
