Job Description
The School of Forestry is seeking to fill a teaching intensive Lecturer position. Teaching load will be the equivalent of four courses per semester. Although the area of expertise is open, we are seeking an individual with a strong background in general forestry, who can teach courses with both lecture and field components and at all levels in our undergraduate forestry program. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach or co-teach, at a minimum, the following courses: Watershed or Recreation Management, Forest Management or Forest Planning, and Forest Economics. Depending on qualifications, teaching one or more courses in the area of wildland fire science and management is a possibility. Teaching responsibilities may also include online or hybrid (online and in-person) courses.
Research and other forms of scholarly activity are not an expectation for this position, and release time will not be allocated for such.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master of Science degree in forestry, natural resources, or closely related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in forestry.
- Ph.D. in forestry, natural resources or closely related field.
- A record of college- or university-level teaching, or teaching assistant experience.
- Expertise in both ecological and management applications of forestry.
- Practical field experience in forestry or natural resource management.
- A demonstrated commitment to student success and to working successfully with students from under-represented groups.

Our well-equipped facility jointly houses the School of Forestry, the Ecological Restoration Institute, Centennial Forest (education and research forest), and a unit of the USDA Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station. Our location in the ponderosa pine forests of Northern Arizona and our proximity to life zones ranging from Sonoran desert to alpine tundra provide an ideal place to teach and conduct research. Our unique undergraduate program is nationally recognized for its integration of disciplines and forest resources through team teaching. The School of Forestry offers B.S., M.F., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees.

Background Information

Salary
$46,000 to $53,500, depending on qualifications and experience.

This is a Faculty (FAC) position. Faculty are hired on a contract basis, renewable according to terms of the Conditions of Faculty Service (http://nau.edu/Provost/Resources-Policies/) . Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). Employees will have 31 days from date of hire to enroll in benefits, and their benefits will then be effective the first day of the pay period following their completed enrollment.
If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of employment. The long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following 90 days of employment.
