Responsibilities
The Teaching Adjunct Faculty shall be required to be teaching and grading services from Adjunct Faculty. The Teaching Adjunct Faculty administers CDET schedules and delivers the following courses sequentially during each Academic Year (AY):
- CSC Year 1 - Courses 8901-Theory and Nature of War, 8902-National International Security Studies, 8903-Operational Art, 8904-Joint Warfighting.
- CSC Year 2 - Courses 8905-Small Wars, 8906-MAGTF Operations, 8907-Amphibious Operations, 8908-Operation Planning and Final Exercise.
The handling and managing of online seminar instruction is similar to the weekly evening seminar except students complete their assignments online asynchronously.
Tasks common to all Adjunct Faculty include the following:
- Teach only CDET approved curricula.
- Use CDET teaching materials, faculty guides and faculty LSS sites.
- Grade students' papers, essays, planning products and any grading requirements as specified in CDET course close-out policies and timelines.
- Ensure strict enforcement of test security and integrity.
- Follow the CDET approved academic schedule.
- Grade according to CDET prescribed rubrics.
- Remediate students.
- Enforce the CDET academic integrity policy.
- Ensure that seminar students complete their EOC surveys via the LSS at the end of each seminar course.
- Ensure LSS enrollment of eligible faculty and students into courses and provide faculty and students limited basic LSS support.
- Participate in no more than six (6) hours of local FD per AY determined by the local RC.
- Successfully complete Faculty Orientation 101 prior to teaching.
- Successfully complete Faculty Orientation 201 every third year or its successor course prior to teaching that year.
- Complete LSS administrative duties in accordance with CDET policy
Qualifications
Required
- Have knowledge of, and experience in, military subject matter within the CDET curriculum.
- Have knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices of the case study method; experience in seminar leadership, public speaking, war-gaming, and other techniques of instruction suitable for teaching mid-grade professional military officers.
- Have knowledge of the background and development of American military policy from the colonial era to the present, including policies relating to the Marine Corps and other services.
- Possess desired competencies including organization and planning skills, competence in seminar facilitation, and student evaluation and assessment skills.
- Strong communications and presentation skills.
- Able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficient in computer applications such as Windows and MS Office
- Expected to perform independently and exercise good judgment.
- Active Secret clearance/Ability to obtain security clearance.
- List any REQUIRED language proficiency - None
- Position expected to begin on or about 1 Jul 2021.
Desired
- Mid-Level: Six + years of experience and a BA/BS is required, MA/MS degree preferred.
- Senior Level: Fifteen (15) years of experience and a MA/MS degree.
- Attended Professional Military Education appropriate to rank at time of separation or retirement from the uniformed service.
- Possess a degree in education, history, international relations, or national security/strategic studies preferred
