This research assistant position will support research group members of the Behavioral Science for Policy Lab and involves work across two projects:
  • one on organizational change and climate action by companies and employees, including divestment decisions and employee activism, and
  • one based on survey data aimed at understanding the norms and values underlying behavior in response to Covid-19 and climate change, and the inequities in the impacts of these two threats on different demographic groups.


The work draws on research about social norms and networks, decision making, and behavior from social psychology, sociology, political science and economics. This position could involve data cleaning and analysis, including text analysis and regression based analyses, pulling data from third party sources, developing new survey modules, and preparing literature reviews. The position is ideal for someone considering a research career in quantitative social science and interested in applying research to address social problems (e.g. climate change and poverty or inequality). This position also includes opportunities to learn and develop research skills and receive professional mentorship (e.g., in preparation for applying to a PhD). The position could be expanded to depending on experience level and needs.

Duties include:
  • Identify and develop new datasets, including text based datasets
  • Working with different types of data and running analyses in R. Datasets range from text to quantitative data.
  • Academic literature reviews and background research for the two projects
  • Assistance with preparing IRB protocols


Required skills:
  • Familiarity with statistics (coursework in relevant classes)
  • Strong background in R, can conduct analysis independently
  • Organization and note taking

Preferred skills:
  • Familiarity with GIS data
  • Familiarity with social media or text analysis
  • Familiarity with analysis of panel data
    Strong understanding of organizational behavior
  • Strong understanding of a social science perspective on environmental issues (e.g. political science, economics, psychology, sociology)
