Description
Responsibilities:
- Review incoming submissions and determine testing requirements.
- Perform preservation efficacy (challenge) testing on cosmetic/drug products
- Prepare media, reagents and materials as needed for laboratory testing.
- Determine microbial content and identify microorganisms from products, raw materials and components.
- Independently conduct all other biological/microbiological procedures and/or in vitro alternative tests.
- Develop and update SOP's and guidelines as needed.
- Maintain records of all tests performed, methods used and final disposition according to Standard Operating Procedures.
- Support GLP's activities - media QC, air quality, water quality, incubator monitoring.
- Maintain departmental stock cultures
- Coordinate laboratory purchases.
- Interface with other departments, including product development and production QA labs. Advise them of potential problems, interpret results and when needed suggest solutions.
Knowledge, Skills and Education:
- 0-3 years of experience in cosmetic, pharmaceutical or food microbiology.
- In depth knowledge of cosmetic raw materials, formulations, microbiological test procedures, guidelines, specifications and/or experience in in vitro alternative test procedures is also needed.
- Additional expertise in FDA regulations and pharmaceutical current Good Manufacturing Practices is desired
Minimum Education Required : B.S. in Microbiology, Biology or related science
