Wood is currently seeking an Entry-Level Environmental Engineer or Environmental Scientist for our growing Madison, Wisconsin office. We seek candidates who are interested and knowledgeable in environmental characterization and remediation of contaminated groundwater and sediments. Talented candidates with less experience will be considered. Preference may be given to applicants who are familiar with modern spatial data management and modeling methods, who seek to integrate and expand specialty environmental data and modeling services for our clients on challenging sites. We also welcome individuals who enjoy working in a highly collaborative, supportive team with regular mentoring.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage, analyze, and summarize environmental data, using modern methods for data management and data analytics
  • Develop and lead technical approaches, communication approaches, and QA/QC reviews
  • Prepare 2D maps and 3D visualizations of environmental sites
  • Summarize civil and hydrologic features and conditions
  • Assist planning for sampling and monitoring programs, including efficient and practical data collection efforts to meet characterization and environmental management objectives
  • Participate in training events, project meetings, and engineering team meetings
  • Work and travel safely, follow company and site safety standards, maintain permits and training certificates
  • Learn and practice company codes for ethics and business conduct
  • Maintain and develop vendor and other professional contacts
  • Obtain and maintain professional memberships, licenses, and certifications
  • Grow as a consultant, demonstrating ability to manage multiple projects at one time while building successful client relationships

  • BS, MS and/or PhD in environmental engineering, geological engineering, environmental science or related technical degree
  • 0 to 5 years of experience in an environmental consulting or related practice
  • Experience with ArcGIS and/or environmental database software
  • Proficiency with mathematical / statistical / programming software (e.g., MATLAB, R)
  • Demonstrated academic performance in basic and applied sciences, with interest in interdisciplinary applications
  • Interest and knowledge of PFAS class behavior and environmental monitoring principles
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail, organization abilities and strong time management capabilities required
  • Some fieldwork may require working with hazardous materials and in hazardous conditions
  • May travel frequently to project sites depending on particular assignment, including sites remote from the office, as part of on-site team
  • OSHA HAZWOPER 40 hour training in accordance with 29CFR 1910.120 preferred
  • Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Wood's driving policy
