Your Impact:

Support Environmental Planning and Permitting services and have a hand in transforming tomorrow. As a planner within the Environmental Planning and Permitting Practice, you'll have the chance to provide permitting planning support on fast-paced projects with regular client interaction. You will work closely with and lead other planners, engineers, resource experts such as biologists and cultural resource staff, with multiple private and public sector clients. You will help on utility, renewables, and other types of projects which may include - planning and permitting of electric lines, natural gas lines, solar, battery storage, and transportation.

Based in Oakland office, you'll work on a wide variety of work. You'll use and increase your knowledge of California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and other environmental regulations, such as Clean Water Act 401 certificates, USACE section 404 permits, federal and state endangered species requirements, and stormwater management programs. You'll also research and prepare technical memos and reports, including internal client documents, CEQA and NEPA documents, permit applications and coordinating permitting issues with regulatory agency staff. Here's What You'll Need:

• Bachelor's Degree or higher, in Urban, Regional or Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, Geography, Biology/Ecology, or related field

• 3-6 years' worth of work experience in environmental planning or permitting.

• An understanding of environmental regulations such as California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and resource agency permitting, particularly as applied to work in California is a plus

• Ability to work both individually and as part of a collaborative team contributing to the preparation of environmental documentation

• Ability to work full-time in Northern California, with a regular presence in our Oakland office once COVID restrictions are lifted, and travel to project sites within the state for planning reviews.

• A have Class C driver's license or equivalent for travel purposes

Ideally, you'll also have:

• 2-3 years' worth of experience coordinating tasks / deliverables with multiple technical leads / stakeholders

• Experience and understanding of 401/404 requirements, federal and state endangered species laws, and stormwater management

• Ability to read technical documents on multiple subject areas, understand and summarize key points

• An understanding of linear utility construction methods, planning and permitting in California.

• Ability to provide quality control of self-produced work products and delivery of documents and tasks that are accurate and well-organized

• Strong self-starter with ability to balance work on multiple projects simultaneously

• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and organizational skills

• Experience with GIS

• Experience and comfort handling public involvement, agency coordination, and interfacing with clients, stakeholders and other professionals
