Will provide guidance and training to UMMC personnel concerning safety procedures and the proper use of safety equipment.Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety or related field plus two (2) years of related experience or equivalent combination of education/experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, statutes, regulations, rules, policies, and procedures. Skills in performing safety inspections of buildings and ensuring compliance with applicable safety codes and regulations. Classroom instructional and hands-on training skills. The ability to work in or around hazardous conditions such as exposure to flames, chemicals, and biological agents (required to wear personal protective equipment). The ability to communicate effectively and react calmly in emergency situations. The ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare and/or present reports.

Responsibilities
  • Establishes, maintains, and ensures adherence to policies and procedures related to general safety areas, including fire safety.
  • Develops and oversees the implementation of effective employee safety training.
  • Conducts safety training and presentations including new employee and faculty orientations.
  • Conducts building inspections to identify hazardous conditions and practices in order to help identify training and education that will assist in prevention of worker injuries, and repost same to hospital administration as needed.
  • Reviews and interprets code revisions, moratoriums or equivalencies for applicability to UMMC and hospital specific policies and procedures, and compliance.
  • Collects data and prepares reports on tracking and trending of identified safety deficiencies along with recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Serves as a member of and assist in the training of the UMMC Fire Brigade.
