The Discovery Sciences division of Janssen Research and Development (JRD) is searching for a scientist, Computational Biology in the Translational Platforms department. The role of this individual would be to develop and implement state of the art algorithms using multiple ‘omics datasets to support the development of small and large molecule therapeutics for disease indications, including Oncology, Immunology, Infectious Diseases, Neuroscience, Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases. In particular, this individual will be expected to aid in discovery and biomarker studies in Oncology and related therapeutic areas, through the analysis of mass cytometry (CyToF) and related `omics datasets, obtained from ongoing clinical studies.

You will work in an exciting, interdisciplinary environment, overlapping the different stages of the discovery pipeline, by interacting with several internal and external groups. You should be highly self-motivated and have experience with the analysis of transcriptomic and -omics data generated by various platforms.

Primary responsibilities include design and analysis for computational studies aimed at target and biomarker identification, developing novel algorithms and analysis methods to elucidate disease mechanisms, and also support existing discovery and clinical programs through computational analysis. The candidate must have the ability to analyze and interpret data in a biological or disease context.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with a strong track record in the analysis and interpretation of NGS and related biological datasets. Responsibilities will include:
  • Support drug target identification and development using approaches that integrate data from multiple -omics platforms.
  • Analysis of data to support drug discovery and/or biomarker efforts in areas related to oncology and related disease areas.
  • Integration of ‘omics data and genomics data from population studies, and their interpretation to derive insights into disease biology.
  • Experience in programming with R and/or Python and in building pipelines for NGS analysis.
  • Ability to collaborate and work with experimental biologists and chemists in a matrix environment.
  • Contribute and participate in internal and external presentations, peer-reviewed manuscripts and conference proceedings.

Education:
  • Master's degree with 5+ years of experience and understanding of computational biology and NGS analysis in a pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry setting is required.
  • Ph. D degree in quantitative science, i.e. Biology, Computational Biology/Bioinformatics/Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics/Computer Science with 3+ years of experience or proven equivalent experience is desirable.

Experience and Skills:

Required
  • Experience with analysis of NGS data from DNA and RNA sequencing studies.
  • Familiarity with aspects of cancer or immune biology and computational studies in these areas.
  • Strong publication record in computational biology or related fields
  • Excellent communication, and team interaction skills, self-motivation, proactivity and the ability to work independently.
  • Effectively present and communicate technical data to broad audiences.

Preferred :
  • Experience in dashboard development using Rshiny, Tableau or SpotFire.
  • Familiarity or experience with machine learning methods and their applications to biomarker/target identification.
  • Familiarity with analysis of flow or mass cytometry data is desired.
  • Familiarity with analysis of epigenetic data is desired.
  • Familiarity with single cell sequencing technologies; and interpretation of data from single cell experiments.

Other:

Up to 10% foreign and domestic travel maybe required.
