The School of Environmental and Forest Sciences has an outstanding opportunity for a Life Cycle Assessment Research Scientist. The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) research scientist will responsible for determining environmental impacts through the development and use of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and management of a broad range of wood based products and systems including bioenergy and bioplatics. In this position the scientist would collaborate with the faculty members within SEFS (specifically, CINTRAFOR) in developing innovative research proposals that would help in refining our understanding of the role of wood products in mitigating climate change. The candidate must demonstrate his/her ability to publish high impact research papers in peer-reviewed journals and mentor CINTRAFOR graduate students. This position would specialize in LCA of biobased products and will strengthen SEFS' research in wood products and climate mitigation strategies. Responsibilities:
- Undertake Life Cycle Assessment research and contribute in scientific publications
- Collaborate with research group members and coordinate LCA research activities within CINTRAFOR

(https://hr.uw.edu/benefits/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2018/02/benefits-professional-staff-librarians-academi-staff-20210208.pdf) Required: •Master's degree in natural resources or life cycle assessment of bio-based products •Four or more years of experience in: ?Life Cycle Assessment research of biobased products (ideally wood products) ?Extensive quantitative work and data analysis ?Research on carbon sequestration modeling with a focus on life cycle assessments of renewable biobased systems •Demonstrated proficiency in and the use of LCA software programs •Travel requirements: less than 10% of the time (international and domestic) Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration. Desired: •PhD in natural resources or life cycle assessment of bio-based products •Experience with radiative forcing models •Excellent knowledge about wood product LCAs •Knowledge of SimaPro LCA modeling software Application Process: The application process for UW positions may include completion of a variety of online assessments to obtain additional information that will be used in the evaluation process.
