Department Description
Detailed Description
The Computational Biologist will join a team of researchers on the Vertebrate Genome Project and contribute to a significant genome curation undertaking, specifically in the assessment of genome assemblies using bespoke software tools and correcting assembly errors. Responsibilities include working closely with our data production and assembly groups to report on insights from assessing assemblies to help improve our pipelines. Will have sound knowledge of genomics, ideally with insight into genome assembly visualization and genome analysis software. Will engage with current genomics research and try out new approaches. #INDCL
Job Requirements
Master's degree in science required; educational emphasis in biological or computational biology or related experience preferred. Knowledge of necessary genomics. Must have experience with genome assembly, genome analysis software, scripting languages, and relational databases. The ability to organize, prioritize and plan a diverse range of work to meet deadlines required. Familiarity with a Unix Environment a must. Must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Must have an investigative and solution-oriented mindset and excellent communication skills to work effectively within large national and international consortia. Programming skills are unnecessary, but a keen eye for detail and a thorough understanding of genomic data to make the right decisions are essential.
