Description:
As an active team member of the innovative Cancer Immunology and Immune Modulation (CI&IM) research group at Boehringer-Ingelheim's US research facility in Ridgefield, CT, the Senior Scientist will contribute to the design, and independently execute, experiments that focus on novel approaches to modulate the stromal microenvironment of tumors, in order to allow for effective T cell-mediated tumor immunity. The Senior Scientist should have a desire to build on their knowledge of tumor microenvironment/immunology and learn new technologies and methodologies in an innovative research environment.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Contribute to exploratory/discovery research identifying and validating new therapeutic concepts; developing novel approaches to study tumor stroma - immune cell interactions
- Collaboration, exchange, and contribution to a stimulating scientific and laboratory culture along with other members of the Cancer Immunology and Immune Modulation group is expected; may direct and oversee experimental design and results of technicians and junior level scientists
- Continuously develop scientific and drug development expertise by expanding scientific/technical knowledge and skill sets, and publishing in peer-reviewed journals and speaking at internationally recognized scientific conferences
- Operate in a highly organized fashion in terms of goal setting and achieving for multiple experiments/tasks
- Independently performs scientific experiments with a predefined goal including developing new methodologies, protocols and or test procedures that contribute to core group/research goals and reflect expert knowledge; May direct and oversee experimental design and results of technicians and junior level scientists
- Develops an understanding of R&D team goals and works effectively toward achieving them; Either assumes departmental responsibility for projects when necessary OR has ability to participate as representative on multiple project teams and contribute to defining expertise-related aspects of overall program goals
- Prepares clear technical reports, publications and oral presentations. Independently communicate results in the form of reports and or presentations; Presents responsibly and defends own work at meetings; May deliver updates to senior level management in context of overall project goals
Requirements:
- Ph.D. from an accredited institution or equivalent experience in a related field
- Successful postdoc in a related field as determined by publication(s)
- Expertise in the area of tumor microenvironment required; with experience studying the tumor stroma (CAFs, ECM, vasculature) and/or tumor immune microenvironment
- Demonstrates a broad knowledge of field
- Excellent cell culture and cellular and molecular biology skills, including experience with relevant primary cell types (fibroblasts, myeloid cells, T cells, e.g.)
- Experience with advanced imaging techniques including confocal microscopy required
- Experience with basic immunology techniques such as immune cell isolation, ELISA and flow cytometry required
- The ideal candidate should have competent computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Graph Pad Prism and Power point), analysis of flow cytometry data using Flowjo and image analysis software (ex. ImageJ, Velocity, Imaris, Halo, Visiopharm, etc).
- Appropriate level of understanding of applicable regulations

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)
Must be 18 years of age or older
