Job DescriptionMOLECULAR BIOLOGIST TUMOR CELL LINES
SAN DIEGO, CA
Position requires person to be onsite starting day one.

Project Description:
The Client seeks a highly motivated cell and molecular biology contractor to join our Oncology Discovery research team within the Oncogenesis Thematic Research Center (TRC) which specializes in protein homeostasis and targeted protein degradation. The successful candidate will work collaboratively to 1) help develop and implement cell assays to support target identification and validation; and 2) perform studies to further our understanding of the on-target/off-target mechanisms of lead novel compounds. The successful candidate should have strong technical skills including experience with mammalian cell culture, CRISPR, 3D cell models and demonstrate clear verbal and written communication skills. This position is based in San Diego, CA.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform target validation in a diverse range of oncology models using CRISPR and tool compound approaches
  • Utilize FACS and Western blots for cell analysis; ProteinSimple WES is a plus
  • Perform dose-response curve experiments to assess drug efficacy
  • Maintain and passage 2D/3D patient-derived tumor lines.
  • Manage cryopreservation of tissues and cell lines.
  • Maintain an accurate and complete laboratory notebook and other records according to company rules.
  • Write laboratory protocols and standard operating procedures.
  • Perform a wide variety of basic molecular biology procedures.
  • Assist team members with house-keeping tasks.

Required Skills:
  • Target Validation Experience (assay development and optimization)
  • Solid hands-on experience with basic cell biology techniques such as:
    • Mammalian cell culture (3D culture experience is a preferred)
    • Drug screening protocols, assessing cell viability.
    • Cryopreservation
  • Solid hands-on experience with basic molecular biology techniques such as:
    • CRISPR Experience - Transfection and viral transduction techniques
    • Transfection and viral transduction techniques (overexpression, Knockout)
    • Western blotting
    • Flow Cytometry
  • Preference will be given to candidates with hands-on experience with 3D culture and/or matrix associated growth techniques.
  • Attention to detail and ability to perform delicate manual tasks in a laboratory.
  • Interest and proven aptitude in learning and applying new laboratory techniques, skills and instrumentation.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills (able to clearly communicate problems, protocols, and results to colleagues, both in writing and verbally), and ability to keep complete and detailed records.
  • Drive to seeing projects through to successful completion.
  • Able to interact with colleagues of diverse backgrounds and contribute to team goals.
  • Fluency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; GraphPad Prism is a plus
EDUCATION:
  • M.Sc. degree in the biological sciences with 2+ years of hands-on cell and molecular biology experience
  • B.Sc. degree with 4+ years of hands-on cell and molecular biology experience
