Job Summary

The Zepp Lab, of the University of Pennsylvania and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, is looking for a Post-Doctoral fellow to join our growing group. We are dedicated to understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying lung diseases in children as well as adults. We have several lines of investigation focused on the lung fibroblast lineages. We are looking for scientists to help us build new ex vivo and in vivo models to parse the varied functional responses of unique fibroblast subsets and how they contribute to disease. Our lab takes a comprehensive approach that includes genetic mouse models, three-dimensional in vitro cell culture, live imaging, molecular and transcriptomic profiling to interrogate these cellular processes.

In close collaboration with Dr. Zepp and other members of his lab, the Post-Doctoral fellow will take the lead on research projects of their choosing. Projects may include (a) investigating transcriptional and epigenetic regulators of fibroblast identity in the lung and their contribution to lung regeneration. (b) Identifying the mechanisms of fibroblast activation states and their impact on local immunity. (c) Testing how direct cell-cell interactions between fibroblast subsets and the microvasculature contribute to lung repair after respiratory viral infection. All of these studies would incorporate cutting edge techniques such as single-cell sequencing and novel mouse models to map the lineage paths and molecular signatures in subsets of fibroblasts. Further, we are translating these findings through the use of primary pediatric and adult cells obtained through our Penn-CHOP Lung Biology Institute.

The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, promotes a scholarly environment and is highly creative. Our lab works collaboratively with other Pulmonary investigators at CHOP. Together our labs and our trainees have unlimited access to designated resources for histology processing (paraffin, IHC and vibratome sectioning), single-cell sequencing and advanced imaging (fluorescence, live-imaging and confocal).

Applicants must have a doctoral degree in a relevant field, such as Biology, Biochemistry, Cellular and/or Developmental Biology, Physiology, Bioengineering or Pharmacology and a strong background in techniques relevant to these fields.
