Research Associate

Description:
Assist in the day-to-day operations of multiple labs through media prep for further tissue culturing. Candidates should have some familiarity in various laboratory techniques in molecular biology, cell or plant tissue culture and genetics, and must be able to conduct procedures according to standard operating procedures to meet project goals.
To start out, the lab technician in this role would be doing a lot with media preparation, plating, and autoclave.
Attention to detail is very important in this role. That is because the media that is being prepared, it is not immediately noticeable if it is made "wrong", and it is found out once plants are being grown which is around 45 days later.
The other component of this job will be looking through damaged seed and determining which seed can still be used for further testing. This requires visual inspection and following the SOPs in place and to have high attention to detail
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in biology, botany, chemistry or related science
1+ years of lab experience (can be from school labs)
Strong attention to detail
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare media according to protocols
Sterilize and dispense media (including use of autoclave)
Coordinate tissue needs with cell biology and greenhouse teams
Maintain, calibrate, and clean instrumentation, labware, and common laboratory areas
Collect biological samples
document experimental design and results in a lab notebook.
