Kelly Science & Clinical has a new direct hire opportunity for a Sr. Scientist- Molecular Biology/Gene Expression in Thousand Oaks, CA.

Salary is $140K based on educational background and relevant experience. Relocation assistance is available for highly qualified candidates!

The successful candidate will work with the cargo development team to both improve the behavior of standard gene expression elements and identify new ones to pair with diverse cargo genes. The position will require the applicant to develop library construction approaches, work closely with the screening team to develop novel assays for high-throughput characterization of libraries and variants using NGS and single-cell assay approaches, as well as manage research associates to execute on projects. A strong candidate will have experience with mammalian gene expression and hands-on experience with a variety of high-throughput molecular construction and screening or selection approaches.

Responsibilities

* Responsible for the design and screening of AAV based expression libraries for cargo potency and safety modulation.

* Development of selection and screening assays to measure impact of cargo modifications.

* Execution of molecular biology for library construction and NGS characterization assays to meet pre-clinical research goals.

* Collaborations within the pre-clinical research, engineering, and data sciences teams for assay development and data analysis.

* Keeping up to date with novel tools for gene expression, library construction, and screening.

* Present findings to interdisciplinary scientific teams to seek input on key studies and propose data-driven decisions.

* Develop a small scientific team, coordinate their efforts, and see to their scientific and professional improvement along with your own.

Requirements

* PhD in molecular or cell biology, or a related scientific discipline.

* Master's degree in molecular or cell biology, or a related scientific discipline with 4 or more years of industry experience.

* Strong technical experience with all DNA assembly methods, library design, and NGS sample preparation and related data analysis.

* Experience with high-throughput DNA screens.

* Demonstrated capability of generating data-driven hypotheses and developing properly controlled assays for hypothesis testing.

* Excellent oral and written communication skills.

* Collaborative mindset and a willingness to work with and provide mentorship to junior RAs.

* Experience with viral delivered gene therapy constructs.

* Experience with cell culture-based screens.

* Experience with single cell assay platforms, such as ddPCR, 10x or Mission bio

* Experience with gene expression modulation.
