This laboratory-based position is within the T Cell Biology and Immune Modulation group in Exploratory Biology. This group is responsible for discovering and characterizing the mechanism of action (MOA) of immunomodulatory and immune cell redirecting lead biotherapeutic molecules across all therapeutic areas of J&J. This role will focus on developing, optimizing, and implementing novel immune cell functional assays utilizing complex spheroid and organoid disease models and imaging technologies to characterize the MOA of potential biologic therapies to enable IND progression.

Key Responsibilities:

The position offers an exciting opportunity to engage in the discovery of novel biotherapeutics for unmet medical needs. The role can involve:
• Development and application of complex spheroid and patient derived organoid disease models incorporating components of the innate and adaptive immune system to support prioritization and characterization novel biologic therapeutic candidates MOA in multiple disease areas.
• Design and execute studies utilizing confocal microscopy and live cell imaging technologies. (i.e. image cell-cell interactions, proliferation, migration, and differentiation).
• Designing and executing non-routine experiments with a high level of autonomy and minimal supervision while also indirectly or directly leading or setting objectives for others on team projects.
• Identify new areas of research in complex assays and imaging technologies consistent with strategic direction.
• Independently analyze and interpret experimental results and draft protocols, SOPs, technical reports etc.
• Generating and maintaining experimental data in an electronic laboratory notebook in a highly organized manner is essential.
• Educate lab members on in vitro complex assay technologies.
• Interfacing effectively and positively with all levels of colleagues in research and non-clinical functions as well as engage and manage external CRO collaborations.
• Independently presenting or defending scientific findings in cross-functional projects/initiatives.
• Interacting with internal and external colleagues on routine/critical matters and/or specific phases of a research projects.

Qualifications

Education:
Master's Degree with at least 10 years of experience or PhD with 2 years of Post-doctoral experience in Cell Biology, Immunology or a related discipline is required.

Experience and Skills:

Required:

• Experience engineering spheroid and patient derived organoid cultures for disease modeling in the academic or biotechnology industry setting.
• Experience engineering complex multicellular disease models.
• Expertise in confocal microscopy and live cell imaging. High content imaging assay development with spheroid and organoid models.

Preferred

• Experience with super resolution microscopy highly desirable.
• Experience with automation and automated liquid handling instruments.
• Past experience or expertise from a laboratory with either an oncology or immunology focus. Familiarity with tumor models and anti-tumor response.
• Demonstrated proficiency in the development of assay methods (ie. primary cell isolation, ELISA, MSD, cell binding assays, and/or signaling assays).
