Research Associate, Microbiology & Immunology

Novome is building genetically engineered microbial medicines (GEMMs) that perform defined activities in the human gut to treat chronic diseases. We have developed the first platform for controlled colonization of the gut with engineered therapeutic bacteria, and are applying this to multiple disease areas as well as expanding our platform capabilities. We are moving our lead program in secondary hyperoxaluria into Phase 1 clinical trials, and are actively progressing programs in IBS, IBD, and Immuno-oncology.

We are seeking Research Associates to join our dynamic research team and help advance the design, development and characterization of novel GEMMs. Research Associates will be responsible for collaborating with scientists and other Research Associates to execute and design experiments to characterize and validate candidate GEMMs. Research Associates will work alongside experts in synthetic biology, metabolic engineering, gut microbiota, and various disease areas in a collaborative, transparent environment.

  • Perform laboratory assays to assess strain function including but not limited to growth curves, reporter luciferase assays, ELISAs, Western Blots
  • Perform sample processing for a variety of molecular and cellular assays (e.g. intestinal cell isolation, periplasmic, proteomics and metabolomics sample preps)
  • Work with scientists and other research associates to design, develop, optimize experimental workflows, and analyze the data produced with new and existing techniques used to characterize novel GEMMs (e.g. protein purification, mass-spec operation and analysis, flow cytometry)
  • Collaborate with scientists to execute experiments and troubleshoot study design or assays
  • Perform laboratory support tasks such as media preparation and supply organization
  • Prioritize daily tasks to meet the needs of all team members, and effectively communicate progress and results in a timely manner
  • Participate in scientific project team meetings, sharing insight on experimental results and providing feedback to scientific leadership
