Job Description
UES, Inc., has an opportunity available for a Ph.D.-level Synthetic Biologist to join our team working within the Air Force Research Laboratory Materials and Manufacturing Directorate at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH. This position will work independently to advance, implement, and develop synthetic biology efforts including metabolic and microorganism engineering, genetic circuit design, and protein engineering. The candidate will be expected to meet key milestones and contribute significantly to the synthetic biology vision for the AFRL.

Successful candidates will have expertise in bacterial physiology, bacterial genetics, and protein biochemistry. Familiarity with modern molecular biology techniques including CRISPR and high-throughput screening, laboratory automation, and protein purification is highly desired. Candidates must have strong interpersonal skills and demonstrate a willingness to work on a collaborative team. This role will provide opportunities to mentor junior scientists during their development into independent researchers. Travel to scientific conferences and collaborator institutions is expected when travel restrictions are lifted.

Requirements:
  • PhD in synthetic biology, microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or closely related field of study. Relevant postdoctoral experience is a plus
  • Experience in nitrogen fixation is a plus
  • Strong ability to work independently and on a team to drive research projects
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • An energetic individual with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and acquire new skills quickly
  • Desire to mentor junior scientists and students in research endeavors
  • This position is working within a government facility requiring U.S. Citizenship, and may require the ability to obtain a security clearance
