We are currently seeking a Genomics Scientist . This position is located in Columbus, Ohio .
JOB SUMMARY
This position will support the development and project execution of tools and services for our molecular epidemiology business. The position will work in a small, fast-moving team collaborating with laboratory and data scientists to carry out laboratory tasks and deliver cutting-edge research and products to our customers. Responsibilities for this position include:
- Performing genomics and molecular biology research, development, and evaluation on biological samples from various sources, applying (and developing where necessary) the latest laboratory techniques to ensure comprehensive and efficient scientific results
- Capturing and organizing data using spreadsheets and other database tools
- Analyzing laboratory data using spreadsheets, analytics, graphing, bioinformatic, and molecular modeling tools
- Ensuring effective and frequent communications with senior project leadership
- Capturing and reporting technical progress in technical reports, briefings, and peer-reviewed articles for presentation to management and clients
- Supporting the team in developing new, enabling capabilities and in proposal/grant writing
THE FOLLOWING IS REQUIRED
- M.S OR B.S. with 2 years experience with at least 1 year prior laboratory experience in Genomics, Molecular Biology, Genetics or related discipline Or early Post Doctorate.
- Strong background in Next Generation Sequencing (targeted, untargeted, methylation, ChIP-seq etc) across multiple sequencing platforms (e.g., MiSeq, NextSeq, MinION, etc.) and related laboratory and data analytical methods
- Experience with PCR/qPCR
- Experience working with both DNA and RNA sample types and related extraction protocols for sample types ranging from environmental to human clinical
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and proven ability to work collaboratively with development teams to ensure development cycles are maintained
- Applicants for this position must be a U.S. Person, as defined by U.S. export control laws.
THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED
- Experience with genomic reference database and tool resources (e.g. e.g., RefSeq, Ensembl, dbSNP, DGV, dbVAR, ClinVar, ExAC or UCSC Genome Browser
- Experience with modern molecular cloning techniques
- Ability to hold a U.S Government security clearance
- Product or method development experience
- Peer reviewed publication(s) as evidence of past successes
