How will you make an impact?
This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the development, production, and improvement of antibody detection products. You will be expected to have a broad spectrum of technical working knowledge in mammalian cell culture, protein expression and characterization, flow cytometry, cell line generation, and cell banking with scientific rigor in a regulatory environment.

What will you do?
The Staff Scientist, Cell Biology serves as a technical lead to explore new technologies and identify creative and robust solutions to overcome current technological limitations in transplant IVD products.

• Establish recombinant stable cell lines including vector design and construction, transfection, stable pool generation, FACS enrichment, single cell cloning and screening, candidate clone identification, cell expansion, and cell banking. Characterize cell line and cell bank including clonality, identity, growth, expression, and stability.

• Improve cell line generation process and cell culture workflow to increase yield and quality of recombinant antigens. Evaluate and implement new expression systems to address the limitations of the current system. Develop assays that characterize antigen expression and quality preferably at an earlier stage in the workflow. Collaborate with manufacturing to support and troubleshoot antigen production.

• Manage the workflow and database of expression plasmid construction for HLA alleles and other antigens of interest. Assist the management of lab operations and perform lab duties including instrument maintenance, calibration and qualification, ordering and maintaining lab supplies, and supporting Cell Biology functions in general.

• Isolate and characterize lymphocytes from human whole blood. Establish and characterize antigen expression from transformed native cell lines.

• Develop cell culture scaleup process to increase production efficiency.

• Collaborate with other R&D groups to develop new products and improve existing products.

• Participate in project planning and execution, generating reports, and presenting findings in group and R&D meetings under the guidance of R&D Manager and R&D Sr. Manager.

• Perform all activities in compliance with GDP/GLP/GMP, regulatory and company safety policies.

How will you get here?

Education
Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Genetics or a related discipline in Biological Sciences, and, 3 years of postdoctoral experience, preferably in the development of therapeutics or diagnostics.

Experience
• Hands-on experience in expression vector design and construction for recombinant protein expression in mammalian cell lines
• Cell culture and asepsis techniques
• Clear understanding of cell line development and cell banking principles and practices
• Process development and assay development
• Proficiency in flow cytometry
• R&D experience in either biotech or pharmaceutical industry
• Inventory management

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
• Knowledge in HLA typing and lymphocyte development
• Skills in instrumentation and software applications
• Excellent communication, documentation, and presentation skills
• Aptitude for mentoring and coaching junior staff
• Ability to lead projects and coordinate with multiple functional areas
• Ability to perform multi-tasks and manage priorities to meet company goals
• Strong problem-solving skills, identifying root causes, and proposing alternative approaches and feasible solutions
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a group setting to meet project timelines
• Flexibility and adaptability in a highly dynamic and demanding environment
