Overview and Role:

We're looking for a talented and analytical individuals with creative and critical thinking, relationship building, and outcomes-based problem-solving skills to join Palladium's agile team helping structure, sell and implement innovative projects that contribute to our diversification and "beyond aid" strategic objectives.
This position offers compelling opportunities for agile, entrepreneurial, and self-motivated team member, who will be exposed to a variety of different assignments in fast-paced environments, including business development, networking, and project opportunities. S/he will work with a diverse team across the Palladium global network to determine requirements of client projects and programs by defining, analyzing, and managing key areas of the value proposition to fulfil client needs. S/he will gain exposure to a diverse set of clients, project roles, industries, and practice areas to help organizations all over the world meet their strategic goals.
The Senior Associate must be able to think "big-picture" with an ability to leverage strategic tools and frameworks to operationalize system-level ideas with realistic client projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting and coordinating the pipeline of initiatives in Commercial Innovation Practice. The selected individual will also help coordinate linkages with Palladium development Communities of Practice/Practice Areas, Commercial Facilities for Natural Resource Systems (NRF Hub), Economic Growth Community of Practice, Impact Capital, as well as Palladium's projects, particularly those that feature private sector engagement.
Excellent research, writing and oral communications skills are required together with some combination of quantitative and qualitative business, economics, and development competencies, and PowerPoint skills.
This position will ideally be based in one of the Palladium Hub offices (Washington DC or NYC) and may require travel.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities will vary depending on the client and assigned projects, but some may include, but will not be limited to:
- Design strategic project frameworks and structures leveraging Palladium's methodologies, previous experiences, and team feedback
- Research client organizations and industries including interviewing, conducting focus groups, and facilitating workshops
- Identify issues, create hypotheses, translate data into meaningful insights, and present recommendations to key stakeholders
- Build and maintain a network of external professional relationships across industry and practices
- Identify new business development opportunities, articulate Palladium's value proposition to potential clients, execute and manage pursuit plans to win new business
- Proactively engage in Palladium's global network across business units, mentor other team members, and share team experiences and capabilities across the firm
- Develop new IP across various mediums including online publications and presentations
- Support Palladium as a whole to prepare and write proposals, reports and other materialsin PowerPoint and Word
- In coordination with other departments support the development of Palladium training programs and events, and materials for participation in conferences
- Support in harvesting tools and case studies related to Commercial Innovation, Natural Resource Facilities, Private Sector Engagement, and Innovative Finance from projects in Palladium's global portfolio, customize them for use with a private sector and funding clients, and facilitate their dissemination and use within the organization
- Liaise with Regional Business Partnerships (RBPs) to identify international leads and projects where private sector engagement and investment is a major feature and assist with research, trainings, technical assistance assignments, etc.
- Provide support with special research and Thought Leadership initiatives.
Relationships:
This role is envisioned agile, it will most immediately be assigned to Commercial Innovation practice, but also may be assigned to Natural Resource Facilities Hub or different RBP portfolios. During this assignment, it will report to the corresponding Director, although administrative reporting remains within the RBP. KRAs and annual reviews will be jointly managed.
- The role is key to the success of Palladium's Corporate "Beyond Aid" and diversification objectives.
- The role works closely with Palladium development Communities of Practice/Practice Areas, Commercial Innovation Practice, Commercial Facilities for Natural Resource Systems (NRF Hub), Impact Capital, as well as Palladium's projects, particularly those that feature private sector engagement.
Key Competencies & Qualifications Required:
Basic qualifications
- Experience engaging with private companies, impact funders or development organizations for social and environmental impact
- PC skills-MS office, special emphasis in PowerPoint and Excel
- Exceptional written, verbal, and illustrative skills due to client- / external-facing nature of the role
- Ability to leverage commercial consulting skillset for social impact
- Willingness to travel domestically and/or internationally
- Understanding of business strategy frameworks and tools
Recommended qualifications
- Management/ strategy/ execution consulting skills and experience
- Executive / stakeholder management experience, particularly with director level and above
- Experience with accelerators, start-ups, or incubators
- Industry experience in mining, food and agriculture, travel, financial services, circular economy, and consumer goods
- Expertise/experience in supply chains, value chains, corporate strategy, monitoring and evaluation, climate change and carbon, workforce development, project management, corporate governance, blockchain, systems thinking, CSR, and/or sustainability
- Business fluency in additional language, particularly in Spanish
- International professional experience, particularly in Latin America
