Cramer Fish Sciences currently has an opening for a Seasonal Biological Technician. The focus of this seasonal assignment will be to conduct habitat surveys in eastern Washington forests near Chewelah. Work supervised out of Fish Ecology Lab in Portland, OR.
Approximate Dates: May 15 to August 1st
: The Biological Technician provides support for the organization by assisting Biologists in conducting fieldwork and data collections on fish distribution and fish habitat.

: The Biological Technician provides support for the organization by assisting Biologists in conducting fieldwork and data collections on fish distribution and fish habitat.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform habitat assessments including measurement of fish habitat characteristics such as channel unit classification, large woody debris, substrate size, discharge, and water quality parameters
- Conduct data collection, entry, and organization and basic summaries of fisheries and aquatic habitat related data
- Collect fish distribution data with backpack electrofishers and eDNA
- Prepare and organize the upkeep of all equipment and supplies needed for field work
- Assist Lead Biologists on various tasks including: collecting data, data management, and problem solving for various projects, studies, and other assignments
- Perform other duties as assigned

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
- Must be comfortable working in the aquatic environment including wading in rivers and streams
- Must be able to work effectively in inclement weather in remote locations
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Working irregular hours in various kinds of weather and potentially rugged terrain on occasion in order to meet project deadlines
- Travel field work may require extended travel to remote areas for 5-10 days at a time, over long distances and in potentially inclement weather
Education/Minimum Qualifications:
- Undergraduate course work in Fisheries Science, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related field
- Basic level proficiency with MS Office Suite
Desired Qualifications:
- General knowledge of Pacific Northwest fish biology, aquatic or plant ecology, fish habitat requirements, fluvial geomorphology and hydrology
- Experience conducting stream habitat surveys
- Experience using GPS
- Basic experience using ArcGIS
