Job Summary: As the Scientific Director of Oncology & Immunology, they will lead discovery efforts within the broader oncology & immunology portfolio. This professional will have the opportunity to work across modalities including biologics, cell therapies, and small molecules while also having a high level of autonomy with the goal of identifying and developing clinical candidates for EBI's portfolio. Moreover, this role will impact the scientific direction and lead a team across preclinical drug discovery phases.

The Director of Biology Will Also:

• Perform basic and non-clinical disease research, with a focus on Immunology, Oncology/Hematology, and/or Cardiovascular/Metabolic Disease compounds (small molecules, biologics, and other novel modalities).
• Lead discovery research programs with the goal of characterizing and ultimately identifying preclinical candidates that will be transitioned into the clinic.
• Identify or develop appropriate in vitro and/or in vivo model systems to answer key biological or pharmacological questions.
• Collaborate with other functional groups within drug discovery and clinical development to achieve drug discovery goals.
• Identify and validate potential new drug targets and present for consideration as new drug discovery programs.
• Strategize with other senior members within the group to contribute to the overall scientific strategy and establish long-term research plans.
• Supervise and direct the activities of research associates and PhD level scientists, be responsible for the development of direct reports in both scientific knowledge and leadership skills.
• Represent oncology drug discovery and efforts to both internal and external stakeholders
• Interpret and present research at internal and external meetings.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Pharmacology, Cancer Biology/Genetics, Cell Biology or Immunology or related field or equivalent experience
• Post-doctoral experience in a relevant field
• 8+ years of related pharmaceutical or biotech experience. Experience with global pharmaceutical companies is a plus.
• Supervisory and research team leadership experience
• Proven experience identifying research projects and successfully running them in collaboration with internal and external teams.
• The ability to perform basic and non-clinical disease research, with a focus on Oncology/ Immunology.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience working with cross functional teams internally and externally
• Exceptional command of contemporary discovery biology and adeptness in all aspects of cell biology and physiology
• Therapeutic experience in oncology & immunology; either with small molecule, biologics, or cell-based targets (not required to have all three) specifically for drug discovery efforts
• Impressive record of leading programs that result in the identification of the clinical drug candidates
• Track record of productivity in oncology research as demonstrated by publications in high impact peer-reviewed scientific journals.
