The Impact You'll Make in this Role
The person hired for this position will be responsible for developing and implementing environmental strategies to ensure compliance and drive continuous improvement, optimization and standardization across Health Care Business Group (HCBG). In addition, this person will provide supervisory leadership and direction for EHS performance excellence and compliance for the USAC HCBG manufacturing plants located in the Eastern United States.

As the HCBG Environmental Specialist/EHS Supervisor, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most creative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
  • Developing and leading HCBG environmental programs to support effective site implementation to:
    • Analyzing environmental data, self-assessments, and reports; communicate findings, trends, and recommendations; support the correction of gaps (including through standard work, procedures and/or training)
    • Coordinating activities and improvement efforts for the environmental elements of the EHS Management System, internal and external audits, BT EHS, and ISO 14001
    • Serving as a subject matter expert to HCBG operations on environmental legal requirements and related controls through technical partnerships, use of the CAMMS system to define and track actions, and support for environmental permitting, reporting and agency engagement
    • Providing support in responding to HCBG product development teams and laboratory operations
    • Coordinating the HCBG environmental network to share learnings and actions across the sites
    • Partnering with 3M Environmental Permits & Compliance Team, 3M Corporate Environmental, 3M USAC EHS, 3M Engineering and other stakeholders on relevant programs/projects
  • Providing EHS supervisory leadership and direction, in consultation with HCBG EHS Manager, for 3M Stafford Springs, 3M Meriden 3M Flemington and 3M Charlotte
    • Coaching, mentoring, professional development, performance reviews, succession planning, resource assessments, and budget management
    • Identifying, managing, monitoring and analyzing overall EHS risk profiles of the USAC HCBG east-coast manufacturing plants, setting short and long-term strategic directions and priorities
    • Fostering a culture of trust and collaboration to realize a working environment of open communication, project management, prioritization and a full entitlement mindset toward compliance and risk reduction
    • Actively supporting, monitoring and ensuring the effective implementation of all EHS requirements, programs, compliance tasks, incident investigations and KPIs
  • Collaborating regularly with the HCBG POL and POM, plant managers and plant EHS leaders regarding EHS risk profiles, compliance and performance metrics, HCBG and plant-level project priorities/action plans, clarity of roles and responsibilities and resource needs and allocation


Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
  • Seven (7) years' experience with EHS programs and procedures within a private, public, government or military environment


Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
  • Master's degree or higher in a science, engineering or EHS discipline from an accredited institution
  • Three (3) years combined supervisory and/or leadership experience
  • Experience in implementation of comprehensive environmental, health and safety management systems in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with environmental program administration, especially in regard to air, waste and water compliance
  • Experience with hazard and risk assessments in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience interacting with Federal, State and local regulatory agencies
  • Proficiency with various corporate reporting/compliance and other software tools
  • Self-directed, detail oriented, excellent communication (oral, written and interpersonal), prioritization, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, influence and inspire others
  • Analytical leadership, project planning, program development and deployment skills
  • Applicable EHS certification(s) such as CSP, CIH, ASP, QEP


Travel: May include up to 30% domestic and international
