Environmental Monitoring & Technologies, Inc. (EMT) is an environmental laboratory, providing our clients with quality testing services for 35 years. We specialize in analysis of water, wastewater, and soils for organic and inorganic compounds, as well as conducting field sampling services for a variety of regulatory programs. In an effort to prevent hazardous substances harmful to the environment from entering fresh water sources, EMT samples flows of water, wastewater, and storm water, for such harmful substances as lead, mercury, cyanide, and dozens of other organic and inorganic compounds.

EMT is looking to fill two positions: groundwater field technician and wastewater field technician. Applicants will be applying for both positions, and interviews will be done with the managers of both departments. Applicant's preference will be taken into consideration, but job offers are contingent upon which position fits the candidate's skill sets.

Groundwater Field Technician

Groundwater Field Technician will be trained to operate various types of monitoring and sample collection equipment to collect representative samples to be analyzed at a laboratory. These tasks will be done in a safe, ethical, and environmentally conscientious manner, providing value and customer satisfaction to EMT's clients.

Responsibilities:
  • Travel to client locations around Illinois and Indiana according to quarterly schedule
  • Document and collect accurate and defensible data.
  • Preserve and transport samples to our laboratory, or elsewhere as directed.
  • Use sampling equipment in a timely and efficient way to acquire the most representative sample
  • Calibrate and diagnose problems with equipment.
  • Work and navigate around rough terrain and heavy machinery in landfills or other job sites.
  • Perform safe handling of hazardous chemicals.
  • Communicate effectively with the Groundwater Manager, co-workers and clients to ensure tasks are completed in a manner to yield representative results.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by the department manager.

Qualifications:
  • Must have a strong desire to be environmentally conscious and responsible.
  • Must be able to lift/carry heavy equipment, coolers, etc. (up to 50 lbs).
  • Must be able to work in all types of varying, outdoor weather conditions.
  • Must be able to travel with overnight stays.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Be able to work overtime (frequently) when required
  • Must be insurable by EMT's insurance carrier to drive company vehicles.
  • Due to our clients' requirements for on-site access, background checks will be required.

Training and Safety Requirements:
  • Hazardous material, safety, and on the job training will be provided.
  • Applicant must follow all safety procedures as instructed by Field Manager and client's requirements


Wastewater Field Technician

Wastewater Field Technician will be trained to use, install, and service specialized equipment to sample and monitor industrial wastewater streams at manufacturing companies, food companies, hospitals, and landfills. These tasks will be done in a safe, ethical, and environmentally conscientious manner, providing value and customer satisfaction to EMT's clients.

Responsibilities:
  • Travel to client locations around the Chicagoland area according to daily schedule
  • Document and collect accurate and defensible data
  • Pick up and deliver samples to be analyzed in our laboratory
  • Install sampling and flow monitoring equipment in a timely and efficient way to acquire the most possible representative sample
  • Calibrate and troubleshoot flow monitoring and sampling equipment
  • Perform safe handling of hazardous chemicals.
  • Communicate effectively with the Field Manager, co-workers, project managers, and clients to ensure tasks are completed in a manner to yield representative results.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by the department manager

Qualifications:
  • Must have a strong desire to be environmentally conscious and responsible.
  • Must be able to lift/carry heavy equipment, coolers, etc. (up to 50 lbs.)
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Be able to work weekends (occasional) and overtime (frequently) when required
  • Must be insurable by EMT's insurance carrier to drive company vehicles.
