About the Position
This Juvenile Justice Specialist is primarily assigned to the MLK Jr. Education Center of Youth Services, which is an alternative education program that serves youth involved in the juvenile justice system. This dynamic position assists in a variety of tracks specifically related to supporting youth in the juvenile justice system evaluating students, their performance and working with the MLK Jr. Education Center on a variety of academic and vocational projects within the alternate education program.

This position focuses primarily on vocational classes and food preparation in the Youth Services industrial kitchen. A secondary responsibility will be working with MLK students in Culinary Arts classes.

Culinary Arts
Perform a variety of duties related to culinary arts. Assist youth enrolled in the Culinary Arts program. Employees in this track assist youth with hands-on experience in all aspects of food service and catering.

Case Work Support and Skills Training
Perform a variety of duties related to supporting and tracking youth in case plan success; training youth in the development of pro-social coping strategies.

Horticulture and Forestry
Perform a variety of duties related to horticulture and forestry in juvenile work crews.
About the Division
Lane County Youth Services (YS) provides assessment, probation, training, counseling, and detention services for all youth, ages 12-17 years old, referred by local law enforcement because of criminal behavior.

Schedule: Wed-Saturday, 7am-5:30pm. Summer Hours are Tues-Fri, 7am-5:30pm.

Training
Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience
One year of experience working with juveniles in a criminal justice setting, performing work in the area of assignment.

An equivalent combination of experience and training that will demonstrate the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

Special Requirements:
Bilingual preference
Oregon Driver's License

Must be in possession of a valid driver's license at time of application, and a valid Oregon Driver's license by time of appointment.
