We are seeking an individual to work as a Biologist at the National Institutes of Health in Research Triangle Park, NC.
This is a long-term contract position which offers:

TASKS/SERVICES . The contractor shall:
1.Perform neurobehavioral experiments with rodents (mice and rats) including basic behavioral assays and more advanced approaches including optogenetic, fiber photometry and miniature endoscope recordings.
2.Interface with laboratories at NIEHS to identify their requirements for neurobehavioral studies. Discuss the scope and objectives of research projects. Locate and review the literature pertinent to the project to identify the most applicable protocols and methods.
3.Develop, validate and deploy behavioral assays and novel approaches based on the identified needs of laboratories at NIEHS.
4.Responsible for maintaining an awareness of current research and new methodological developments in the field. Review scientific journals, abstracts, and unpublished manuscripts and attend conferences, meetings, and lectures on subjects of relevance to the research program. Discuss current research with other employees in the organization. Review available literature on new methods and techniques for potential application in the laboratory.
5.Work with staff on training of fellows and staff in neurobehavioral and safety techniques.
6.Prepare written instructions for the performance of standard laboratory procedures.
7.Provide laboratory managerial support, including inventory, ordering and equipment maintenance and regulatory requirements (e.g. Animal Care and Use Committee requirements, safety requirements).
8.Update and maintain laboratory notebooks and databases.
9.Collect, analyze and interpret data; prepare summaries and reports based on results and findings and participate in manuscript publication.
10.Maintain orderly laboratory environment.
REQUIREMENTS . The contractor must have:
1.Ph.D. degree in Neuroscience, Psychology or a related discipline.
2.Minimum of five years of laboratory experience in Neuroscience or a related field.
3.Experience working in a laboratory environment.
4.Experience with neurobehavioral studies in rodents, including behavioral assays, dosing procedures and surgical techniques.
5.Experience establishing and deploying neurobehavioral assays.
6.Knowledge of standard neurobehavioral techniques.
7.Knowledge of standard software, e.g. Windows, Mac-OS, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Power Point).
8.Demonstrated evidence of competence and scientific productivity as indicated by authorship on papers and presentations.
9.Strong communications skills, both oral and written.
10.Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills
