How will you make an impact?
Assist with execution of Thermo Fisher Scientific environmental, health, safety and sustainability program at our Millersburg, PA site. This position supports the global EHS strategy through a program that seeks to proactively manage EHS & Sustainability in order to comply with all applicable regulations and Thermo Fisher Scientific standards and to achieve a safe work environment and minimize the impact to the environment.
What will you do?
- Provide guidance and oversite of EHS and Sustainability programs in a fast paced, cross functional and highly collaborative environment. Prioritize initiatives and resources to maximize effectiveness.
- Reinforce and sustain a safety-first culture through involvement and innovation with site leadership and operational teams.
- Manage collection of key performance indicator metrics and perform analysis to drive EHS strategy and practical process improvement.
- Utilize a proactive analytical approach to develop and improve EHS programs and processes to meet the changing needs of the business.
- Implement all elements of Thermo Fisher Scientific global EHS management system including all local regulatory requirements applicable to the site.
- Interface with all regulatory agencies on EHS matters to maintain a strong collaborative environment that works to partner on compliance and best practice implementation.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to solve EHS related challenges and staged cross functional solutions.
- Lead sustainability initiatives by engaging employees and projects to consume less energy while producing less waste.
- Develop and execute strategy to systematically control and reduce safety hazards and risk of injury or hazard exposure.
- Participate with site safety committees, emergency response teams, practical process improvement teams to achieve sustainable site EHS goals.
- Manage EHS training program strategy, content and deployment. Including targeted training metrics and effectiveness analysis.
- Direct and manage internal and external resources to achieve site and global objectives.
- Manage site EHS budget and identify opportunities and actions for savings.
- Develop, implement and deliver effective training programs
- Provide technical and regulatory EHS guidance for chemical handling, biosafety, hazardous waste, ergonomics, confined spaces, energy control, and other EHS programs
- Ensure Job Hazard Analysis/ Job Safety Analysis is effectively conducted, current, and adhered to by teams across the site. Monitor closure of action items.
- Manage the site Emergency Plan and Emergency Response Team. Provide or organize training for First Aid, CPR/AED and other required trainings
- Provide effective Incident Response and follow up
- Review Incident Investigation for proper Root Cause Analysis. Ensure injury and illness cases are effectively managed to closure.
- Manage and socialize the site monthly Environmental Health and Safety metrics
- Implement a comprehensive EHS inspection program and track corrective action items to completion
- Participate in EHS audits as appropriate
How will you get here?
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in safety, environmental management, and/or sustainability engineering discipline
- Master's degree in safety sciences a plus.
Experience
- Requires a minimum of 5 to 8 years of experience in an environmental, health, and safety, related discipline and technical/practical knowledge of EHS regulations, codes, and guidelines.
- Must have thorough knowledge of federal and local EHS regulations, including OSHA and EPA.
- Professional certification: CSP, CIH, a plus.

- Demonstrated ability to recognize, evaluate, and recommend controls for workplace hazards.
- Demonstrated ability to determine training needs, organize and/or conduct training.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills required, including the ability to interact with outside regulatory agencies.
- Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, and slide presentations required.
- Technical and practical knowledge of bioprocessing manufacturing is highly recommended, or a willingness to quickly become proficient is required.
- Strong collaborative skills and ability to influence others without authority.

Working Conditions
- Many duties are performed while sitting at a desk or conference room, (e.g., operating a computer, using a telephone, or writing and analyzing data and/or reports, attending meetings).
- In addition, walking or standing within the manufacturing area is required for conducting inspections, drills, participating in agency inspections, conducting EHS assessments, assisting and may serve as an incident commander in ERT activities.
- Minimal travel may be required.
- This position will provide support for afternoon, evening and weekend shift coverage on a regular basis.
