Summary of Job Duties:The Director of the School of Human Environmental Sciences will proactively lead efforts to build strong, multidisciplinary research programs in applied and basic research in the areas of study within the School and related disciplines while providing exemplary leadership to innovative teaching programs. The School Director is expected to lead by effectively communicating with a wide range of people, cultivating a climate of respect, fostering collaboration, creativity, and innovation while actively encouraging integration of the School's research across teaching programs with ongoing extension efforts serving the College and University.

Additionally, the Director will promote departmental interests in state, regional, national, and international programs while maintaining relationships with the other disciplines in the University System, state and federal agencies, and leaders across Arkansas. Multi-disciplinary research programs of the School are directed toward the development and transfer of credible, timely, and objective information, and address the needs of relevant industries, as well as, the general public. The Director provides leadership in building a structure that enhances resources to support faculty development.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualification:
  • Earned Ph.D. in the human sciences represented by programs within the School, or a closely related discipline f rom an accredited institution with an o utstanding record of professional accomplishments
  • An academic record commensurate with the rank of full professor
  • Active participant in professional associations and accrediting bodies related to the disciplines represented within the School

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience and knowledge within the Land Grant University System
  • Prior experience in an academic environment encompassing the missions of teaching, research, and service
  • A graduate degree in one of the program areas represented by the School

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the organizational structure of university graduate programs and the ability to help grow graduate curriculum
  • Knowledge of organizational structure, budgeting procedures, personnel management, and administrative policies
  • Knowledge of trends and funding opportunities in the discipline related to research and academic programs and ability to attract extramural funding
  • The leadership skills or the potential necessary to administer a program that includes resident instruction, research, and service
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with diverse faculty, staff, clientele, and stakeholders
  • Ability to sustain an inclusive/equitable work environment for faculty, staff, and students while prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Ability to speak and write clearly and to communicate ideas effectively
  • Ability and interest in providing multi-disciplinary leadership and coordination of diverse research interests
  • Ability to recruit undergraduate and graduate students, and a commitment to fostering research and academic excellence
